Is this item drinking water safe?

Yes.  Water flowing through your ELEY reels, hoses, and watering tools stays pure because we use only 100% drinking water-safe internal component materials. From the lead-free brass and rubber seals, down to the assembly lube—it’s all safe.

What is the inside diameter (ID) of the interior ball valve?

When fully open, the interior ball valve creates an opening that is 14mm in diameter (0.55 inches) or just over 1/2" inside diameter.

What type of threads are on the nozzles and gun?

All threads on this product are 3/4-inch Standard Garden Hose Threads (GHT).  Accordingly, both the gun and the nozzles can be directly threaded onto any standard garden hose or watering tool.  Virtually all garden hoses used in North America (whether 1/2-inch, 5/8-inch, or 3/4-inch) are equipped with threads that are 3/4-inch GHT. 

What is the grip made from?  I have a contact allergy to rubber.

The grip is made from thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV), often marketed under brand names such as Santoprene™. It is not natural rubber and does not contain natural rubber latex.

Other soft/elastomer parts on this product are NSF-approved EPDM, which is a synthetic rubber, not natural rubber latex.

Does the ELEY brass spray nozzle valve contain Teflon® (PTFE), and is it safe?

Yes. The ELEY brass spray nozzle valve uses a small Teflon® (PTFE) seal inside the brass valve to help it operate smoothly and stay leak-free. This seal has limited contact with the water as it passes through.

The Teflon® material we use is approved for food-contact applications and has been independently tested for chemical migration into water, with no measurable transfer detected under the test conditions. Our hoses and watering tools are designed for everyday use on edible gardens and around people, children, and animals.

This is our go-to sunscreen. It has an 2020 EWG (ewg.org) safety rating of 3 (where a 1 is safest but often difficult to find and often too expensive and a 10 is the worst safety rating). We love that is not too thin or thick, so it goes on easily, and it works into your skin without leaving you white or greasy, has a neutral pleasant smell, stays on well in the water (up to 80 minutes), and is accessible (has a decent price around $1 per ounce and is easy to find in many local grocery and drug stores). It is the one my kids grab out of the pile every time! And the only reason there is a pile is that I am trying to find a sunscreen rated 1 or 2 by EWG that has all of the properties of Coppertone SPORT 30. The search continues....

This sunscreen is well-known, but let me tell you about the manufacturer….

Have been using this sunscreen for most of my life—it’s been around forever. Product consistency has always been 100 percent perfect. But a few weeks ago I purchased the sunscreen I’m reviewing here, and when I went to use it, rather than finding a well-blended white lotion, the lotion had separated into white clumps and a watery liquid. The product was clearly defective even though it was well within its use-by date. I reached out to Coppertone via email and asked for a product replacement. They got back to me that same afternoon with a letter of apology, sent me coupons for a few free bottles of this sunscreen, included some additional discount coupons for Coppertone products, and also sent a prepaid label and pouch to return the defective product since they wanted to make sure that they were able to solve whatever had led to that product being released in that condition. All in all, I was impressed. Coppertone is clearly a firm with a customer-centric culture, and a commitment to product quality.
