ABOUT OUR ALOCASIA POLLY

Hey there, I’m Polly. They call me the African mask plant, elephant ear plant and Alocasia Polly. I’m a very distinctive plant with an incredible out-of-this-world look. There aren't many houseplants on the market that look like me, that’s for sure! I like to think of myself as a one of a kind plant that should be snapped up before I’m gone!

I’m a hybrid plant mixed between two other species of Alocasia but my exact parents are still unknown. I'm quite particular about my environment. I prefer medium or indirect light and high humidity. I can be a bit fussy when it comes to tap water so it’s best to always water me with rain or filtered water. Although I like a humid environment I would suggest using a humidifier nearby rather than misting me. If large amounts of water drops are left on my leaves this could lead to some nasty bacteria problems on my foliage.

My out of this world vibe is sure to make your friends and family green with envy. Make sure to dust off a prime spot for me to be admired.

DID YOU KNOW?

Polly will start to ‘cry’ by releasing droplets of water from her leaves when she has been overwatered. She does this as a way of getting rid of all that extra moisture in her stems.

Polly’s striking and bright veins will draw you in from the other side of the room.


QUICK ALOCASIA POLLY PLANT CARE

Polly will thrive in medium light with plenty of humidity and filtered water.

LIGHTING

I don’t like bright, direct sunlight. Keep me in a semi-shady spot with plenty of natural light.

WATERING

I don’t like dry or soggy soil. Check my soil every 4-6 days and only water when the first two inches of soil is dry.

HUMIDITY

I love a humid room. Place me in a bathroom or by a humidifier. Find out how you can increase humidity here.

FERTILISER

Use a diluted fertiliser once a month to promote my growth. Avoid fertilising me from the months of October-February as I will be in dormancy.

How do you take care of an Alocasia Polly?

Taking care of Polly can be tricky in the beginning but once she has settled into her new home, her care will be smooth sailing. She prefers indirect sunlight and her leaves can easily burn in any hot direct sunlight. Place her near a window with shutters or blinds for a dappled light. Polly can put up a fuss if watered with tap water. Filtered or rain water is preferred as these types of water carry less chemicals that can be harmful to Polly’s root system. You may notice Polly drop a few leaves when she first arrives in your home. This is perfectly normal and Polly’s own unique way of getting used to her new environment. Avoid moving Polly around your home in the beginning so she has a chance to get used to her environment.

How much sun does an Alocasia Polly need?

The Alocasia Polly needs to be placed in a well lit room. She needs plenty of natural light to survive and should be placed in a spot where she can see a window. An east or west facing room would be ideal as this offers gentle sunlight rather than midday heat.

How big do Alocasia polly’s get?

An Alocasia Polly will push out plenty of new growth and can reach a maximum height of 80cm.

PLANT STYLING TIPS

Polly has very striking foliage and should be styled with plants of a similar shade like Maya, the coffee plant and Monty. The more plants Polly is paired with the higher the humidity will be around the plant. The best spot for Polly is on a high shelf or cabinet away from young children or pets because she is toxic if ingested.

Use the protection crystal and guard crystal to complement Polly’s dark foliage and to keep bad energies away from you and your plants.
