Plant Care:
-
Light: Maranta Fascinator thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Consider placing it near an east-facing window or a few feet back from a south-facing one.
-
Water: Water your Maranta Fascinator when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Allow for good drainage to prevent root rot. Opt for filtered or rainwater whenever possible, as these plants are sensitive to minerals in tap water.
-
Humidity: Mimicking its natural rainforest habitat, Maranta Fascinator prefers high humidity levels. Grouping your plant with others or using a humidifier can help create a more moisture-rich environment. Regular misting can also be beneficial.
-
Temperature: Maintain a warm and stable temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C) for optimal growth. Avoid placing your plant near cold drafts or air vents.
-
Soil: A well-draining, loose potting mix is ideal. Opt for a mixture specifically designed for houseplants or create your own with equal parts perlite, orchid bark, and potting soil.
-
Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), a light application of balanced liquid fertilizer once a month can be beneficial. Dilute the fertilizer according to package instructions and avoid overfertilizing.
Light Level:
As mentioned earlier, Maranta Fascinator prefers bright, indirect light. Here's a breakdown:
-
Bright, indirect light: This is ideal, providing enough light for healthy growth without scorching the leaves. Look for locations with dappled sunlight or near an east-facing window.
-
Medium light: The plant can tolerate medium light conditions, but growth may be slower. Rotate your plant regularly to ensure even growth.
-
Low light: While Maranta Fascinator can survive in low light, the foliage may lose its vibrancy and growth will be significantly stunted. Avoid very dark corners.
Toxicity:
The good news is that Maranta Fascinator is considered non-toxic to humans and pets according to the ASPCA https://www.aspca.org/. However, it's always best to keep houseplants out of reach of curious children and pets who might nibble on the leaves.
By following these simple tips, you can ensure your Maranta Fascinator thrives and brings a touch of the tropics indoors for years to come
