This tough-as-nails evergreen has a fine, lacy foliage which turns bronze and red in winter.
It has unbranched reed-like stems, as you would expect from a bamboo.
In the spring, new growth appears as a bright red, and is soon followed by large creamy white flowers.

Provide plenty of sun to get the intense leaf coloring.
