This plant is known in English as water spinach, river spinach, water morning glory, water convolvulus, or by the more ambiguous names Chinese spinach, Chinese watercress, Chinese convolvulus or swamp cabbage, or kangkong in Southeast Asia and ong choy in Cantonese. It is a versatile aquatic vegetable that thrives in wetland environments, making it a staple in various culinary traditions across Southeast Asia. This leafy green is characterized by its long, hollow stems and vibrant green leaves, which are not only visually appealing but also packed with essential nutrients, including vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium. Water spinach has a mild, slightly sweet flavor that lends itself well to a variety of cooking methods, including stir-frying, steaming, and boiling. It is often featured in traditional dishes such as Thai Pad Pak Boong and Vietnamese Canh Chua, where its tender texture and ability to absorb flavors enhance the overall taste profile. This nutritious vegetable is an excellent choice for health-conscious consumers seeking to incorporate more greens into their diet while enjoying the unique flavors of Asian cuisine.

....limited information about how the average person...
Format: Kindle
Coverage of the earliest period does (of necessity through lack of records?) encompass rather a lot of conjecture and assumptions. There's certainly a good coverage of the period - but it can become rather dry as it cycles through successive rulers. There's limited information about how the average person lived during the time covered. Tended to skim past extended descriptions of fairy tales of ancient beliefs and convictions. The book occasionally reverts to mentions of much later personalities (such as Freud) and comparing them to characters of ancient China!

Not worth the paper it’s printed on.
Format: Paperback
I can’t say that I was expecting such a slim volume on 10,000 years of Chinese culture to be a work of rigorous scholarship, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be quite *this* dreadful. It is badly written to the point of being unreadable, and it is clear that no one thought to edit the document before publication. I made it about twenty pages in before I had to put it down. The entire thing reads like an Anthropology 101 term paper written by a first semester college freshman who hasn’t quite figured out how to back up claims with evidence yet.
