Introducing the variegated bear paw or bear claw succulent, known as the Cotyledon ladismithiensis variegata, a vibrant member of the Cotyledon ladismithiensis family. The Bear paw succulent plant's leaves resemble bear paw pads, with a claw-like shape and fuzzy texture. Variegation, a pattern of different colors on the fragile leaves, further enhances the paw-like appearance.

This rare evergreen variegated bears paw succulents, with its thick, fleshy leaves that are covered in soft, velvety hairs, gives it a cozy and cuddly appearance. The leaves are typically green with splashes of cream or yellow variegation and a red tooth-like formation on the edge, adding to its charm. Native to South Africa, this slow-growing dense mat-forming plant, can grow up to 12 inches tall.

The flowers of the variegated bear paw succulent are tubular and bell-shaped on long stalks, during the spring. The flowers can vary in color, ranging from shades of yellow to orange or even red.

You can propagate the Bear Paw succulent through stem cuttings or leaf cuttings. Simply take a healthy stem or leaf, allow it to callus for a few days, and then place it in well-draining soil. With proper care and the right conditions, these cuttings can grow healthy new plants.

Additionally, the Variegated Bear Paw is mildly toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

Watering Needs

Like other succulents, the Variegated Bear Paw is adapted to survive in arid conditions. When watering, make sure to give your Cotyledon succulents a thorough soak. Water until it starts to drain out from the bottom of the pot. This ensures that the roots are properly hydrated. Avoid overwatering by providing a moderate amount of water. The goal is to moisten the soil without leaving it soggy. Overwatering can cause root rot and other issues. To prevent this, let the soil dry completely between waterings, and if it feels dry, water accordingly.

In the spring and summer, during the growing season, the Bear's Paw succulent may require more frequent watering due to increased growth. While, in the fall and winter, during the dormant period, the plant's water needs decrease. Adjust your watering schedule accordingly.

Remember, it's always a good idea to observe your soft succulents and adjust your watering routine based on its specific needs. Factors like pot size, humidity, and temperature can influence watering frequency. With a little practice and attention, you'll find the right balance to keep your Variegated Bear Paw thriving.

Light Requirements

When growing indoors, this Bear Paw plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a window that receives bright, filtered sunlight for a good portion of the day. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours, as this can scorch the leaves. If you notice the leaves stretching or becoming leggy, it might be an indication that it needs more light. You can consider using a grow light to supplement the natural light if needed.

When grown outdoors, the Bear Paw succulent prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade for at least 4-6 hours a day. It can tolerate some direct morning or late afternoon sun, but it's best to protect it from intense midday sunlight, especially in hotter climates. If you live in a region with harsh, scorching summers, providing some shade during the hottest part of the day can help prevent leaf burn and stress.

Remember, it's essential to acclimate your Bear Paw succulents gradually to outdoor conditions if you plan to transition from indoors. Start by placing it in a shaded spot and gradually exposing it to more sunlight over a few weeks to avoid sunburn.

If the plant receives too little light, it may become leggy and lose its vibrant colors. On the other hand, excessive direct sunlight can cause leaf burn. Observing your plant's response and adjusting its placement accordingly will help ensure it thrives in bright light in its new home, whether indoors or outdoors.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The Bear Paw succulent prefers well-draining soil to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Planting them in ordinary soil will result in compacted roots, stunted growth, and most likely root rot. Instead, make or buy a well-draining potting mix, or ideally use our specialized succulent potting mix that contains 5 natural substrates and mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your succulent to thrive.

To keep your Bear Paw healthy and happy, it's a good idea to fertilize it regularly during the growing season in the spring. You can use a balanced (5-10-5), water-soluble NPK fertilizer diluted to half-strength. Apply the fertilizer once a year to provide the plant with essential nutrients.

However, it's important not to over-fertilize your variegated bear paw, as this can lead to fertilizer burn and damage to the plant. Always err on the side of caution and dilute the fertilizer more than recommended if you're unsure. During the dormant season in fall and winter, you can reduce or stop fertilizing altogether, as the plant's growth slows down.

Remember, it's always a good idea to monitor your plant's response to fertilization. If you notice any signs of nutrient deficiencies or excesses, such as yellowing or browning leaves, adjust your fertilization routine accordingly.

Hardiness Zone & More

When growing indoors, the bear Paw succulent is well-suited where it can thrive in normal room temperatures. Ideally, it prefers temperatures between 65°F to 80°F. It's important to keep the plant away from drafts or extreme temperature fluctuations, as they can stress the plant. So, find a cozy spot in your home where the temperature remains relatively stable.

When it comes to outdoor cultivation, the Variegated Bear Paw is generally hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11. If you live in one of these zones, you can consider growing them outdoors year-round. Just make sure to provide it with the right conditions and protection from frost, as it is not tolerant of freezing temperatures.

Additionally, it appreciates a moderate level of humidity, around 50% to 60%. If you live in a region with higher humidity, the plant will generally do well. However, if you're in a drier climate, you can increase humidity by misting the plant's leaves or placing a tray of water nearby.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Variegated Bear Paw (Cotyledon ladismithiensis variegata) is a fascinating cotyledon succulent that captures attention with its bear paw-like leaves and beautiful variegation. It's a real standout in any succulent collection, adding a touch of whimsy and charm. With its fuzzy texture, unique leaf shape, and occasional bell-shaped flowers, this plant is truly a delight to behold. This bear paw succulent requires bright, indirect sunlight and well-draining soil to thrive. To avoid root rot, water sparingly and let the soil dry out entirely in between watering. Additionally, these plants benefit from occasional misting to increase humidity levels. Give it a try and enjoy the beauty and intrigue this unique variegated bear paw brings to your home or garden.

Wonderful pillow and products!
Color: White, Size: Body
I've been using the Snuggle-Pedic pillow for a couple of weeks now, and it is fantastic. It's soft, but the foam is firm and full. It is clearly extremely well made. Everything from Snuggle-Pedic appears to be top quality, right down to the extra little instructional inserts they include with their products. I also purchased the Zipper Removable Cover to make laundering easier. It's just as well made as the pillow. In fact, it's exactly the same as the cover on the pillow except removable due to the zipper. I'm also using the Snuggle-Pedic Organic Cotton Pillow Case, and it too is extremely well made, soft and comfortable. I was a little hesitant about the pillow case when I saw the picture because it almost looked ... too soft for me, sort of like a fleece blanket. Maybe that was just the way I saw the picture, but it's not actually like fleece. It's very soft and comfortable and does stretch a little as opposed to a regular pillow case, as they say in the description, but in a good way and appears very durable. I was concerned that it would stretch out and twist around the pillow, but it doesn't do that at all. It has stayed perfectly fitted to the pillow. From what I've experienced, everything in the descriptions of the Snuggle-Pedic products is true, and all three pieces work perfectly for me. This is the most I've spent on an individual pillow, but I couldn't be more pleased, and I'm planning to replace all my pillows.

Cool Slumberings
Color: White, Size: Queen
For transparency, I was given this pillowcase to review by Relief Mart. However all views are my own and not biased because of it. I had recently purchased the matching pillow (see my other review) and had the opportunity to try this out. In terms of specs, it's basically made out of the same material as the Snuggle-Pedic Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow - it even has the same woven design. According to manufacturer claims: 'Soft and Luxurious Kool-Flow® Micro-Vented Bamboo Cover' - The pillowcase material is very soft to the touch, and does have a premium feel to it. It did have a slight 'smell' when it first arrived, however once washed (and air dried) it's not there anymore. 'Unprecedented breathability that allows air to circulate through the pillow' - It definitely keeps a certain 'coolness' and doesn't heat up if you stay in one spot. It makes staying still bearable, as I'm a sleeper always looking for the cooler side of the pillow during the night. As described, it's zippable so you can separately wash it from the pillow, and I can attest that it does keep it's softness and fluffliness after 3 weeks of use. Though I'm very happy with it, there's a couple things to build on in my opinion: - color and texture of fabric. By itself, the look of the pillow makes it seem that there's no pillowcase. So if you're picky about your bedsheets when you make your bed, this pillowcase will probably stick out like a sore thumb. The unsubtle branding and slight off white coloring doesn't help as well. - there's a tag outside the pillowcase near the zipper, and though it doesn't affect it in any way, it can be slightly annoying and aesthetically displeasing as it sticks out a bit. Would suggest placing it on the inside. I would definitely recommend this product, irrespective of the (minor) points above, as this has made my slumbering experience a whole lot better.

Great pillow case from a company that cares!
Color: White, Size: Body
The Snuggle-Pedic Body Pillow Case is GREAT and is the perfect pillow case for their body pillow! Feels exactly like the great material that's on the body pillow (soft and breathable) -- and it fits the pillow perfectly! I love that there's a zipper on it as I don't have to deal with the pillow slipping out of the case at all. The case fits perfectly and is the perfect case for the pillow! I read some other reviews where people said they didn't love that the tag/label was on the opposite side of the zipper on the case. But for me this was a non-issue. I cut the tag off and now there's no issue at all. :) Oh, and I have to give a shout out to Snuggle-Pedic and their company....they are awesome! They did offer me a free case in exchange for an honest review. But this isn't what I think they are awesome for. I find them to be a stand up company that is truly there to support their customers! They include a little note when you get the pillow and pillow case giving you their phone number and letting them know they are here to help if we have any questions. And they send an email as well saying they are available if we have any questions and they gave suggestions on how to care for their products. They are quick to respond and truly lovely people. I'm a sucker for supporting good companies....companies that actually truly care about their customers...and this company is that! I highly recommend this product :)

Excellent Customer Service and the Cover is Perfect
Color: White, Size: Queen
I have already purchased 2 of the pillows that go with the Snuggle-Pedic Zipper Removable Pillow Cover. Neither of the pillows I purchased had a zipper on the pillow cases. I bought my pillows at different times, the oldest pillow's case recently didn't do well in the laundry and got somewhat frayed. Not in too horrible condition, but I'm rather OCD. I admit I panicked a bit, I love my pillows! But then I discovered they sell the pillow cases with zippers that would allow me to replace my pillow case and not lose my awesome pillow. Perfect! I bought one. And, I am happy to say, that's just the beginning of my review. A day after purchasing the seller contacted me and explained how the pillow case worked. I was very pleased and grateful - glad I didn't have to struggle with it then rush back and beg for info. Nope, they had it all laid out and made it super easy. I got my pillow case, replaced my torn one and my Snuggle-Pedic pillow is good as new! Excellent service! Excellent Products! I highly recommend them. Oh, and if you haven't tried the Snuggle-Pedic Pillows you are seriously missing out! As a side sleeper, I couldn't live without mine now! Lanette

Fits like a glove!
Color: White, Size: Queen
I recently had to buy new latex pillows because our old ones were beginning to shred after too many years. The old ones had a really nice cover on them that they came with and lasted as long as the pillows. The new queen size pillows came with a cover meant for a king-size and they were super thin and flimsy. The manufacturer tried to tell me it's so they could shrink in the wash. You can imagine the review I left! I looked at almost every cover Amazon had on the site and decided to bite the bullet and spend more on these. I'm really glad I did. They fit the pillows like a glove and keep the pillowcases from trying to slip off during the night because they're not slick. They're not sticky either and it is easy to put on the pillowcase. They are quite a bit thicker than any other cover I have ever had and do tend to change the density of the pillow just a bit because of it. I'm not having a problem with the change and it is very minor. I will absolutely buy this case again if the need should arise. I can't comment on the allergy stuff because we have latex pillows, to begin with so no allergens. I see people complaining about the zipper and just can't quite understand that but perhaps they changed it before I bought mine. I do have to recommend putting the zipper end into the pillowcase first to protect you from feeling a zipper at night but I do this with any protector not just this one.
