Weeping Forsythia (Forsythia suspensa)

Weeping Forsythia (Forsythia suspensa) is a graceful, arching shrub known for its long, trailing branches and early spring display of bright yellow flowers. Native to China and one of the original species from which many modern hybrids are derived, this forsythia offers a more naturalistic, cascading form that adds softness and movement to informal landscapes and slopes.

Distinctive Features

Forsythia suspensa grows 6 to 10 feet tall and can spread 8 to 12 feet wide, with long, arching canes that drape outward and downward. In early spring, its bare stems become covered in bell-shaped yellow flowers, creating a waterfall-like effect of color. After flowering, bright green, serrated leaves fill in, giving the plant a lush, mounded appearance through summer and fall.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun Exposure: Full sun to light shade
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained soil; tolerates a wide range including clay and sandy soils
  • Water: Low to moderate; drought tolerant once established
  • USDA Hardiness Zones: 5 to 8

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Cascading habit and bold bloom make it a standout specimen
  • Slopes and Banks: Naturally trailing form helps control erosion
  • Informal Borders: Fits beautifully in cottage gardens and woodland edges
  • Naturalizing: Blends well into wild or open garden spaces
  • Foundation Planting: Adds seasonal interest and texture around buildings

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Water regularly during establishment; low maintenance once mature
  • Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering to maintain shape or control size
  • Fertilizing: Feed in early spring with a balanced fertilizer if needed
  • Mulching: Apply mulch to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds
  • Protection: Deer resistant and tolerant of urban pollution

Why Choose Weeping Forsythia?

  • Graceful Arching Habit: Soft, trailing branches add texture and flow
  • Bright Spring Blooms: Early yellow flowers signal the start of the season
  • Versatile Landscape Use: Effective on slopes, in natural gardens, or as a specimen
  • Low Maintenance: Tough and adaptable once established
  • Focal Point: Weeping shape and vibrant bloom create visual drama

Forsythia suspensa brings a softer, more naturalistic alternative to upright cultivars, offering a waterfall of yellow blooms in spring and a flowing form that suits slopes, informal borders, and wild gardens beautifully.

Neutrogena clear face loción de protección para el sol
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
Neutrogena Clear Face Sun Protection Lotion is one of the most popular options for the face, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. General opinion: it is a very good sunscreen for daily use, light and designed not to cause outbreaks. The positive: * It is oil-free and non-comedogenic, that is, it does not usually cover pores * It has a light texture and "matte" type, it does not leave the skin greasy * Absorbs quickly and can be used under makeup * Offers good SPF 50 protection against UVA/UVB rays * Many people with acne skin say that it does not cause pimples The not so good: * On very oily skin it can be a little shiny over the hours * It is not super moisturizing (if you have dry skin, it may feel a little "light") * Some people may be slightly irritated if they have very sensitive skin Final opinion: It is a highly recommended sunscreen if you have combination or oily skin and want something that does not cause acne. It is practical, cheap and reliable for day to day, but it is not the most "perfect" if you are looking for a totally dry finish or super hydration. If you want, tell me your skin type (dry, oily or mixed) and I'll tell you if it's the best option for you or if there's an even better one.

Matte, weightless, mildly drying
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
Very good sunscreen. It is very similar to the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer sunscreen but with less/minimal fragrance. It absorbs immediately and feels matte and invisible. The only slight downside is that the silica in the sunscreen is actually so good at absorbing oil that it is mildly drying. This is great for people with oily skin, but people with acne like myself often use retinoids that are already very drying, and this can magnify the dryness. I often follow this sunscreen with some moisturizer to counteract the drying effect.

No white cast.
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
Doesn't leave a white cast on your face as long as you rub it in enough. It also doesn't break me out. Good product.

Great - effective sunscreen that isn't oily
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
Works well, doesn't make your skin oily, almost disappears when you put it on. Made for faces but of course works anywhere else as well.

It is a good sunscreen, but if your skin is very oily, think again.
Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50
I have tried many, MANY sunscreens, and this one is in my top 10, but not at the very top. Why not? Well, what I like about it is that you get a good amount for an excellent price. It's lightweight, but not extremely so, and this size can easily last you 3 months without any problem. However, while it's made for oily skin, it's not that light. After just a few hours of application, it can leave your skin feeling greasy, especially if you sweat easily. It doesn't leave a white cast, but it does leave a slight, shiny finish. Reapplying isn't very comfortable. If you use it just once a day, it's fine, but if you apply it more often, your skin will feel a bit heavy and oily. I think this sunscreen is better for specific occasions rather than for daily use. If I had to choose a sunscreen for daily use, I would pick one with a lighter formula, like Fusion Water from Isdin.
