Summary: A collector’s favourite, the Philodendron hastatum ‘Silver Queen’ captivates with its shimmering metallic foliage and elegant lance-shaped leaves. Delivered as a healthy plug (P3, H10 cm), it’s a future statement plant ready to thrive in your European indoor jungle.
✨ Why You'll Love the Philodendron hastatum ‘Silver Queen’
- Distinctive silvery-blue leaves that shimmer in natural light
- Compact juvenile form perfect for starting your aroid collection
- Fast-growing and easy-care tropical for any home
- Thrives in typical indoor humidity and indirect light
- Delivered as a plug — ideal for nurturing into a mature, climbing beauty
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates moderate shade. Avoid harsh sun exposure, which can fade its metallic sheen. Excellent for bright rooms, plant shelves, or offices across Germany and the EU.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil are dry. Keep evenly moist but never soggy. Enjoys moderate humidity (50–70%) — mist occasionally or place near other plants to create a naturally humid microclimate.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix of coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite. As a P3 plug plant, transplant it immediately into a small pot upon arrival. Upgrade pot size as it grows to encourage healthy roots. Try our aroid soil mix for optimal growth.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Philodendron hastatum is toxic if ingested by pets or humans due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep away from cats, dogs, and small children.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Vigorous grower once established. Mature plants can climb or trail beautifully when given support. Propagate by stem cuttings with at least one node during spring or summer. Roots easily in water or moist sphagnum moss.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer. In winter, reduce watering and keep above 18 °C. Wipe leaves gently to maintain their metallic shine.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves → overwatering or poor drainage
- Brown tips → low humidity or underwatering
- Watch for mealybugs or thrips on undersides of leaves
🧬 Botanical Background
Philodendron hastatum, also known as the ‘Silver Sword,’ is native to Brazil and admired for its uniquely reflective foliage. The ‘Silver Queen’ variety enhances that natural metallic tone, making it a contemporary favourite for stylish European interiors.
