Philodendron fibraecataphyllum is a recently described species from lowland areas of western Colombia and Ecuador at 0-100 meters altitude. The species name refers to the cataphylls that persist as fibers and cover the upper internodes of the stem, a distinctive characteristic of the species.

Juvenile leaves are narrow and elongated, but as they mature they develop into deeply lobed leaves with shiny undersides (looking like ears). The upper surface of the leaves has subtle ridges that create a striking visual depth in indirect light. Mature leaves can reach up to 40 centimeters in length under good indoor conditions.

The species resembles P. acuminatissimum and P. balaoanum, two closely related species from western Ecuador, but is distinguished by its fiber-like residual cataphylls and leaf shape.

Thrives in bright, indirect light with high humidity and well-drained soil. Keep the soil evenly moist and provide the plant with a moss stake to allow the leaves to develop. Ideal temperature 20-28°C. Fertilize monthly during the growing season.
