Himalayan Skies Stonecrop (Sedum dasyphyllum 'Himalayan Skies')

Himalayan Skies Stonecrop is a low, trailing groundcover that adds cool, powdery-blue color to sunny spaces with very little upkeep. Its tight, creeping habit helps fill gaps and soften edges while staying neat and refined. In summer, small white flowers brighten the mat and bring pollinators into the garden. It is a strong choice for well-drained sites where you want drought-tolerant coverage and clean texture.

Distinctive Features

This stonecrop forms a dense carpet of tiny, rounded, blue-green leaves that look lightly frosted, especially in full sun. Stems creep and gently spill as they spread, making it ideal for tucking between stones or letting it drape over edges. In summer, the foliage is dotted with clusters of small, star-shaped white blooms that add a soft, bright finish. Its succulent growth handles heat well and stays best-looking in lean, fast-draining soil.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun for the best color and compact growth, with light shade tolerated.
  • Soil: Plant in sharply well-drained soil, including sandy, gravelly, or rocky sites, and avoid consistently wet conditions.
  • Water: Water to establish, then keep on the dry side, allowing soil to dry between waterings once established.
  • USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 8 in typical garden conditions.
  • Mature Size: Typically grows 2 to 3 inches tall and spreads 6 to 12 inches wide.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use a broad patch as a low focal point where the powdery-blue foliage can stand out against stone or darker plants.
  • Rock Gardens: Tuck into rock and gravel gardens where sharp drainage and reflected heat are common.
  • Between Stepping Stones: Plant between stones where foot traffic is light and you want a tidy, living carpet.
  • Edging: Line bed fronts and paths for a clean, low border with cool-toned foliage.
  • Containers: Let it spill over the rim of containers or troughs to add soft texture and color.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Shear lightly after flowering or in early spring to refresh growth and keep the mat dense.
  • Fertilizing: Avoid heavy feeding, because lean soil helps maintain compact growth and stronger color.
  • Watering: Reduce irrigation once established, as overwatering can lead to weaker growth and rot issues.
  • Mulching: Use a thin gravel top-dress if desired and keep stems and crowns from staying wet.
  • Propagation: Expand plantings easily by re-rooting small stem pieces in well-drained soil.

Why Choose Himalayan Skies Stonecrop?

  • Cool Foliage Color: Powdery blue-green leaves add a clean, modern contrast to sunny plantings.
  • Tidy Coverage: Dense, creeping growth fills gaps neatly and helps suppress weeds.
  • Summer Bloom: White, star-shaped flowers add a bright seasonal layer and support pollinators.
  • Waterwise Performance: Succulent growth handles heat and dry spells well once established in well-drained soil.
  • Lower Browsing Pressure: Foliage is often less appealing to deer in many landscapes.

Himalayan Skies Stonecrop is an easy way to add durable coverage and cool color to sunny, fast-draining areas. Pair it with darker groundcovers, silver foliage plants, or stonework to make its blue tones read clearly. With sun and drainage, it stays compact, resilient, and visually strong year after year.

My pup really loves this toy!
I think they are adorable. and my pup loves them! We have a golden puppy and she loves to chew and play with her toys. This is one of her favorite toys. She enjoys tugging at the legs and making the squeaker squeck! I love my puppy and she loves this and I highly recommend these!

Not good for aggressive chewers
This product does not stand up to aggressive chewing. My bulldog had it for about an hour before the legs disappeared.

Cute donuts. Not destroyed (yet!)
These squeaky doughnuts are really cute. It’s a bonus that it comes with two. I didn’t realize that when I ordered. I have two dogs and now they won’t fight over a doughnut just kidding one dog is 14 and doesn’t play with toys anymore. The other one is six and loves toys but for some reason he’s not really into this one maybe this will change but for now he only goes after it if I throw it, I’ll update this review to comment on durability if and when he starts playing with the toy, but for now it’s very adorable because it’s just sitting on the floor. Update: he picked one up only because I put it in front of him to take the photo!

Double the Fun
This two-pack was a really nice surprise. The toys are super cute, soft, and just the right size for carrying around, which made them an instant hit with my pup. He loves having a toy he can easily grab and parade around the house, and these are perfect for that. The plush material is soft enough to make them great comfort toys, but they also have that fun squeaky element that keeps things interesting. I like that getting two in the pack gives a little backup when one gets slobbery or needs a quick cleanup. These are better for gentle play and cuddling than for heavy chewing, but for a puppy or dog that likes soft carry-around toys, they are a great choice. Adorable, fun, and a good value for a two-pack.

Durable
This is the best dog toy I have ever bought! I got my 1st one in 2013 and it still squeaks. Admittedly, there is only one squeaker left but it still works. My dog has played with this silly snake more than any other toy she has. My friend often brings her dog when she visits and then the 2 dogs play tug-of-war with the snake. These are small dogs;, one is a pug and one is a small mixed breed that weighs about 15 pounds. They pull and tug with all their might. Even so, my first snake has no rips or tears. The only thing wrong is that most of the squeakers have given up the ghost. That's why I decided to replace snake. I don't think my pug noticed the difference. I washed it as soon as it came out of the package just to make sure there was no residual die in the fabric as I knew my dog would have it in her mouth ASAP. I don't put my dog toys in the dryer but they just have to be washed from time to time. So, all is well with snake except that he is much louder now that all of his parts work. That's the other thing, don't buy this toy if you can't stand the noise.
