A lush heartleaf favorite for every home
Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium (Philodendron scandens) Medium | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: The Medium Heartleaf Philodendron (P12, H20 cm) is a resilient, easy-care classic with glossy green, heart-shaped leaves. Perfectly sized for shelves, tables, or windowsills, it brings effortless tropical charm to German apartments and European homes.
✨ Why You'll Love the Heartleaf Philodendron Medium
- Glossy green foliage with iconic heart shapes
- Medium size (P12, H20 cm) — a versatile fit for living rooms, bedrooms, or offices
- Incredibly forgiving and easy to care for, even for beginners
- Natural air-purifier that improves indoor air quality
🌞 Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light but adapts well to medium or low-light conditions. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. An excellent choice for north-facing windows in European apartments.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water once the top 2–3 cm of soil has dried out. The P12 pot retains more moisture than baby plants, so water moderately. Average indoor humidity is fine, but the plant thrives with a little extra moisture in the air.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Plant in a well-draining mix with perlite, bark, or coco coir. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to give roots more room as it grows into a lush, trailing vine.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Not pet-safe. Keep away from cats, dogs, and children, as ingestion may cause irritation.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
This medium-sized Philodendron will quickly develop trailing or climbing vines. Propagate by taking stem cuttings with at least one node, rooting them in water or soil to multiply your collection.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer. Reduce watering and feeding in winter as growth slows naturally.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellow leaves: Usually from overwatering — let soil dry slightly between waterings.
- Leggy growth: Caused by insufficient light — move closer to a window with bright, indirect light.
- Brown tips: Often from dry indoor air — mist lightly or use a humidifier.
🧬 Botanical Background
Also known as the Heartleaf Philodendron or Philodendron scandens, Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium is native to the tropical Americas. Celebrated for its fast-growing, trailing vines and glossy foliage, it has become a staple in European homes thanks to its versatility and unfussy care requirements.
