Bell Pepper: Sweet - California Wonder Pepper Planting Instructions

• Initial Spacing: Plant seeds in full sun 1/4 inch deep and 12 to 24" apart.
• Ideal Conditions: Start the seeds indoors in a warm, sunny location. If the plants do not get enough light, they will be leggy and unproductive. Don't hurry to transplant outside. To harden plants for transplanting, expose them to a couple of days of temperatures between 60 and 65 F and reduced water. Set plants outside 2-3 weeks after the last frost and when the soil has warmed.
• Spacing: Plant them 1 to 2" apart, in rows 2 to 3" apart, or spaced about 14 to 16" apart in raised beds.

Bell peppers are ready to harvest when they are firm and shiny with a crisp texture. Clip the fruits from the plant with garden shears rather than pulling them off.

It is best to harvest them when they are smaller toward the beginning of summer. Frequent harvesting will encourage near-continuous fruit production.

Fully mature bell peppers are 4 to 5" long and have full, well-formed lobes. Harvesting can continue until the first frost in the fall.
