The most important timber pine in the South. Growing from your hands.

Pinus taeda, the Loblolly Pine, is the most commercially important timber tree in the eastern United States and the second most planted tree in the world after the coconut palm. It covers more acres of southeastern forest than any other single tree species and produces more timber volume than any other American pine. Fast-growing, adaptable, and highly productive, it is the backbone of the southern timber industry and increasingly important for pulpwood, biomass, and carbon sequestration programs. Improved seed selections have been developed for increased growth rate, straightness, and disease resistance, producing trees that outperform wild populations by measurable margins. If you are looking to buy Loblolly Pine seeds or grow southern yellow pine from seed, this is the tree that the southern forest economy is built on.

  • The most commercially important timber tree in the eastern United States
  • The second most planted tree in the world by volume, behind only the coconut palm
  • Improved seed selections offer enhanced growth rate, straightness, and disease resistance over wild stock
  • Extremely fast-growing, one of the fastest large pine species in North American horticulture
  • Adaptable to a wide range of soils across the southeastern United States

Things you probably did not know about the Loblolly Pine

It grows over 60 million acres in the southeastern United States alone. Loblolly Pine is the dominant commercial species across the entire southern timber belt from Virginia to Texas and from the coastal plain to the piedmont. The total standing volume of Loblolly Pine in the US exceeds that of any other tree species in the country.

The name means muddy hole in old Southern dialect. Loblolly was a term used in the colonial-era South for a low, muddy depression, exactly the kind of wet, poorly drained site where the tree grows naturally. The common name stuck even though the tree grows equally well on well-drained upland sites.

It sequesters carbon faster than almost any other temperate tree. The combination of fast growth and large final size makes Loblolly Pine one of the most effective carbon sequestration trees available in the eastern United States. Forestry carbon credit programs have enrolled millions of acres of Loblolly Pine plantations specifically because of the speed at which the trees accumulate biomass.

Improved seed orchards have transformed southern forestry productivity. Since the 1950s, cooperative tree improvement programs at southern universities have selected, bred, and tested superior Loblolly Pine genotypes for commercial planting. The improved selections available today grow 15 to 25 percent faster than unselected wild stock and show significantly better form and disease resistance, representing decades of scientific plant breeding.

Great product
Scent: Mango & Hibiscus, Size: 12 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Excellent product. It's very gentle on your hair, even if used in hard water. It's over priced though, and there isn't very much in the container.

Horrible packaging, not recommended
Scent: Mango & Hibiscus, Size: 12 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I didn’t see any positive or negative results, but main concern is packaging. Car board box is absolutely horrible idea for this kind of product, you will have zero control or idea how much you are going to poor to your hand, you can’t use refill bottles with pumps, because you have to shake it every time before use. Wouldn’t recommend to nobody, maybe it’s very healthy and good for hair but putting it in this box is terrible idea. Only good thing is smells okay, but they all smell good. And you can’t even return like this thing so waste of money. It spills everywhere, and if you drop or loose the cap you can’t even shake properly anymore.

Not effective and too little product
Scent: Mango & Hibiscus, Size: 12 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have been on the hunt to find a more sustainable shampoo. I saw a lot of people recommend this brand and this shampoo specifically. I figured I would give it a shot. The product itself is very watery and you need to shake the box for every use. Also, I learned that in order to have the product work, I would need a lot of product! The packaging also starts to get a bit soggy while in the bathroom overtime. I love the smell of this shampoo and I love that it is working hard to be more sustainable, but this product, unfortunately, doesn't work well and I need to use too much to clean my scalp. I will still be looking for a product that is effective and sustainable. The hunt continues!

Worked well near the equator
Style: SPF 50
I bought this product because I was going to be in the field for a month, outside, every day, all day, in Tanzania at high altitude. A severe sunburn would be hard to treat in the remote area we were in, but also I am very careful about protecting my skin from aging. I had to have mineral based sunscreen because as a whitewater kayaker I know it’s the only truly water resistant kind and it was going to be sweaty. And since I knew I was going to be putting it on every day, and we didn’t have running water in the field (bucket showers only) I didn’t want it to feel gross. (I really wanted to try the spray but I didn’t want to put anything pressurized in my luggage.) And I had already discovered the Coola face sunscreen (30spf version) which had impressed me with how silky smooth and not greasy it is. Now this IS greasier because it is a higher SPF. BUT I think this product is as good as you’re going to get with the protection you’re getting. Like I said, I’m a white water tiger, so I have used a LOT of mineral sunscreens. This was hands down the most comfortable one I’ve used. And it was effective. I didn’t burn once—only time I did burn was when I forgot to put it on one day toward the end of the trip, when we were out for just a couple hours—and I got the first 2nd degree burn I’ve ever had in my life. That was what this stuff had protected me from, all day every day, the entire trip. I did tan a little but I think that was mostly from the few times I was not covered during short bouts or it was cloudy. For my face I used the Coola 50spf face product.
