The Aloe 'Chico Banana' is a small succulent prized for its compact growth, reaching 12 to 18 inches tall and wide. Originating from garden cultivation, it features variegated foliage adorned with white dashes and produces clear yellow flowers year-round. This hybrid plant thrives in full sun exposure with low water needs, making it suitable for landscapes with well-drained soil. Belonging to the Asphodeloideae family, it forms rosettes of upright deep green leaves and typically grows in small clumps. Its continuous clear yellow flowering adds vibrancy to its appearance, emerging on unbranched inflorescences extending about a foot above the foliage. Created by aloe hybridizer Kelly Griffin, it resulted from a cross between Aloe harlana and Aloe peckii, with Aloe harlana originating from Ethiopia and Aloe peckii from Northern Somalia. This succulent is hardy to temperatures ranging from 20 to 25°F and exhibits moderate frost tolerance, making it suitable for regions with mild winters. In gardens, it is primarily grown for ornamental purposes, adding visual interest to garden beds or containers, and is suitable for xeriscaping projects due to its low water needs and drought tolerance.
