Baby Jade Boxwood (Buxus microphylla 'Grejade')

Baby Jade Boxwood is a compact evergreen shrub that brings year-round structure, clean lines, and dependable color to the landscape. Its dense, dark green foliage and naturally rounded habit make it especially useful in foundation beds, borders, low hedges, and containers where a polished look matters. Because it stays smaller than many traditional boxwoods, it fits comfortably into tighter spaces without losing presence. This is a strong choice for gardeners who want an easy-care evergreen that provides lasting form and a reliable focal point in all seasons.

Distinctive Features

This broadleaf evergreen shrub forms a dense, finely textured mound of small, glossy dark green leaves that hold their color well through winter. Its branching is naturally tight and compact, which helps it maintain a neat appearance with relatively little pruning. Compared to larger boxwood types, Baby Jade offers a smaller scale that works particularly well in more detailed residential landscapes and refined planting schemes. Its year-round foliage makes it valuable not only for structure and edging, but also for creating visual continuity through every season.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Plant in full sun to part shade for the best density and overall performance.
  • Soil: Provide well-drained soil and avoid constantly wet or poorly drained sites.
  • Water: Water regularly during establishment, then reduce to moderate supplemental watering once established.
  • Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 5 to 9.
  • Mature Size: Reaches about 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
  • Habit: Grows in a dense, compact, rounded to mounded form.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use it as a focal point in smaller foundation beds or formal borders where its dense evergreen form can anchor the planting year-round.
  • Low Hedges: Plant it in rows to create neat low hedges with a clean, finished appearance.
  • Foundation Plantings: Use it around entryways, porches, and front beds where evergreen structure is needed in every season.
  • Border Edging: Add it along walks and garden edges where its compact habit helps define spaces clearly.
  • Containers: Grow it in large containers where its tidy shape and evergreen foliage can provide long-lasting structure.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during establishment, then water during prolonged dry periods if needed.
  • Pruning: Prune lightly in late spring or early summer if shaping is needed, though its natural habit is already quite tidy.
  • Feeding: Avoid overfertilizing, because moderate fertility is usually enough to support healthy dense growth.
  • Mulching: Apply mulch around the root zone to help conserve soil moisture and moderate soil temperature.
  • Drainage: Ensure sharp drainage, especially in winter, to support long-term plant health.

Why Choose Baby Jade Boxwood?

  • Compact Size: Its smaller mature habit makes it easier to use in tighter spaces and more detailed planting designs.
  • Evergreen Structure: Dense foliage provides year-round color and form in the landscape.
  • Polished Habit: Its naturally rounded shape helps create a refined look with less pruning than many larger shrubs.
  • Versatile Use: It works well in hedges, borders, foundation beds, and containers.
  • Heat Tolerance: It holds up well in warm climates while still offering good cold hardiness.
  • Deer Resistance: It is generally considered deer resistant, which adds practical value in many landscapes.

Baby Jade Boxwood is an easy way to add lasting structure, evergreen color, and a more finished look to the landscape without relying on an oversized shrub. Its dense habit and smaller scale make it especially useful in modern residential gardens where every plant needs to stay purposeful and manageable. With full sun to part shade and well-drained soil, it offers dependable performance year after year. It is a practical evergreen for adding order, texture, and a reliable focal point to the garden.

Subpar everything
Format: Hardcover
I read almost all the new Batman comics that come out...I haven't been this disappointed in a book in a LOOOOONG time. So boring. Bad art. Bad dialogue. Superficial/basic characters. No emotion. Half-baked Elseworlds universe (if you going to make some changes - make it worth it!). I could go on. When it got to the "big twist" at the end, my eyes rolled so hard I got a headache. I wish I didn't waste my money on this.

Better than the Chronicles
Format: Paperback
I hope DC keeps on publishing these omnibus series up to the silver age and also the softcover option. I much prefer these new softcover editions over the older chronicles series for several reasons. These STGA softcovers are very big almost twice the stories compared to the chronicles and at a very affordable price. Actually a very good price. Also the paper is one hundred times better, I hated the chronicles' paper. Amazon is wonderful too, they now deliver my comics to my house in Costa Rica in less than a couple of weeks, they always arrive before the scheduled time. Excellent service. The only thing to complain is the reproduction. I consider that Marvel makes better efforts than DC to restore their GA stuff. The Cory Sedlemeier books like the Marvel Comics Golden Age omnibus look like they were drawn this morning. DC is usually quite cheaper and prefers not invest in that. So we get the same results as the old early 2000s Archives. I know today it is impossible to get original art pages of action comics 1-10 But I still think that compared to Marvel DC is very lazy and a skintflint when it comes to restoring their old books.
