Why Grow Laredo Tomato?

Compact Plants with Big Production Laredo Tomatoes are a high-performing Roma-type variety bred for gardeners who want dependable yields and excellent processing quality. This determinate tomato produces 4–5 ounce elongated fruits with smooth shoulders and consistently high quality. With a compact growth habit and heavy fruit set, Laredo Tomatoes are an ideal choice for smaller gardens, raised beds, or anyone looking for a manageable plant that still delivers impressive harvests.

Perfect for Sauces with Outstanding Garden Performance Laredo Tomatoes ripen evenly, making harvests simple and efficient—especially when you’re putting up sauces, salsas, or canned tomatoes. The dense, flavorful flesh is perfectly suited for cooking down into rich sauces, while the plants themselves offer incredible vigor and strong disease resistance. Reliable, productive, and easy to grow, Laredo Tomatoes are a standout Roma variety for gardeners who value both performance and flavor.

Laredo Tomato Growing Tips

• When to Plant Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a "warm season" vegetable that should be transplanted in the garden once the risk of frost has passed in the early spring months. Start the seeds in a greenhouse or seed starting room approximately 6 weeks before your intended in-ground planting date. Give each of these plants approximately 4' or more of space in your garden.

Timely planting is important for those in southern climates, as hot summer weather can be rough on tomato plants. Gardeners in warmer climates should aim to get their plants in the ground as soon as possible in early spring. Gardeners in areas with milder summers have the advantage of a longer tomato season, and don't have to be as timely with planting.

Laredo is a determinate tomato variety, which means the plants are relatively compact and have a finite life span. Determinate tomato varieties produce loads of tomatoes in a shorter time frame, which is a great option for canning or preserving lots of tomatoes at a time. Because the compact plants get so loaded, you will need a strong support system. We prefer to use the Florida Weave trellising system for determinate tomatoes, but sturdy cages will work as well.

• How to Fertilize Tomatoes

It's always a good idea to apply some pre-plant fertilizer to the soil when planting tomatoes. We like to add a handful Coop Gro organic fertilizer in the planting hole for each tomato plant. This ensures the plants have the right nutrients to put down roots in their new soil.

Fruiting vegetables like tomatoes will benefit from something called "spoon feeding." This process involves frequent fertilizations at lower concentrations, as compared to fertilizing them heavily once.

Once your tomato plants start to grow after transplanting, feed them every 2-3 weeks with a relatively balanced fertilizer. We like to sprinkle Coop Gro around the plants or make a liquid solution of AgroThrive Fruit & Flower and pour that alongside the plants. Tomato plants will also benefit from "hilling" when they grow to approximately 12-18" tall.

• Harvesting Tomatoes

While there is much hype about the quality and flavor of "vine ripe" tomatoes, allowing tomatoes to ripen on the vine can be a risky proposition. As they ripen, they become susceptible to attacks from birds or pests like tomato hornworms.

As a result, we prefer to harvest our tomatoes when they start to turn pink. We then set them inside on a counter so they can continue to ripen. This does not compromise the flavor, but it does save our tomatoes from being eaten by pests. If you have minimal pest pressure, feel free to let your tomatoes ripen on the vine.

Great Toy, but Big Dogs Destroy the Squeakers Fast
Color: Wild Duck, Hare, Squirrel & Alligator, Size: Large
My big dogs had the squeaker torn out in no time, but my little dog absolutely loves this toy. It’s the perfect size for her, and she carries it everywhere. Durable enough for small pups, just not tough enough for heavy chewers. Still a fun toy overall!

Fun for dogs
Color: Green/Alligator, Size: Small
Smaller than I expected, but the two little dogs love it! They love shaking it, making it squeak, tugging it against each other & chasing it when I throw it to fetch. They often sleep laying on it.

WEIRD feature - requires a water bottle
Color: Cow, Size: Large
Cute, but buyer beware. Maybe the description said this, but who would think to read for this.... You have to insert an empty bottle (like an old water bottle) for it to make the crinkle noise. There is a velcro spot at the base where you can open it and insert the water bottle for the noise factor and your dogs entertainment. I've yet to do that, but feel like my dog is gonna figure out the velcro and get the bottle out in no time. Seems like a waste of money. I could just give her an empty water bottle without the toy for free.

Color: Multicolor/Alligator & Wild Duck, Size: Medium, Color: Multicolor/Alligator & Wild Duck, Size: Medium
Best dog toy! Most dog toys lady maybe a week or less but this one has been going strong for almost 2 months. Both the squeekers still work on both toys i purchased. My vizsla loves ti squeek and carry it around. We added an empty water bottle in the pocket cavity for some extra fun! Yes, we are still on the same water bottle! Fantastic durability.

Shows wear quickly
Color: Multicolor/Sheep & Cow, Size: Medium
These are cute but not holding up as well as I had hoped. Quality is ok and the Velcro has held up great. The fabric just isn’t as good as it could be. They are much larger than expected.
