If Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium) went to school, it probably would have won the “most interesting student” award in its senior year. Most often occurring in open or prairie type settings in the eastern half of the U.S., rattlesnake master is a perennial forb from the same family as carrots and parsley that has yucca like foliage, and spherical, spiky white to light green blooms that are dull in color but oddly stand out in a crowd of other plants. Several not so scientific references from the past link this species to different uses dealing with snakes… hence the name Rattlesnake Master. Don’t try this at home, but one suggested treating one’s hands with a concoction made from the plant could deter bites when handling rattlesnakes. Other cultures have used it to treat snake bites. Humans in the past and present use it for various ailments, but where it really shines in usefulness is that it makes excellent cordage and fabric. In fact, the oldest “shoes” found on archaeological sites in the eastern states are as much as 8000 years old and woven from fibers produced from rattlesnake master leaves.

Aside from its good looks and historical uses, rattlesnake master is also prized by many insects. Monarchs and other important butterflies and skippers utilize the nectar, certain beetles feed on its pollen, and many other native bees, wasps, and flies help with pollination. A couple of insects simply must have rattlesnake master plants to complete their life cycle.

Plant them in USDA planting zones 4-9 in open or mostly open areas so they get plenty of sunlight to reach their best size (blooms up to 4 feet in height). Rattlesnake Master is equally happy in a yard-type ecosystem as it is on a barren or glade, so don’t hesitate to try these anywhere you need to add good looks or diversity to a landscape.

My dog’s favorite soft toy!
Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 12", Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 12"
My dog loves these toys! We will get a replacement for him every couple months or so because these are his favorite. The squeaker is his arch nemesis and it’s always his main priority to get that first. The material is very soft so he likes to lightly chew on it when he gets anxious or excited, only negative is that it does tear easy but there’s not a lot of stuffing so it’s not a big mess to clean. Definitely recommend to puppies and dogs that don’t annihilated their toys.

Puppy and price approved!
Style: Latex Surpise Color, Size: 6"
Great cheap little dog toys! Our 11 month large breed 90lb puppy loves to toss these around and squeak them between his teeth.. they eventually break down but that’s okay, at the low price of a couple to a few dollars each they make it affordable. They put some stuffing inside so it makes it slippery when our pup is nibbling on it. Funny enough these last longer than much more expensive toys that claim more durability! In 8 months we’ve gone through 2. That’s pretty good! Not chew resistant, but the latex offers a texture and squeak that I find makes our puppy go easier on them. Cute and easily packable.

My two Labradors make quick work of these. They love them. But Not very durable. Stuffing everywhere.

Our dog loves them
Style: Latex Surpise Color, Size: 6"
Not for every type of dog, but our dog LOVES these things. Try one and see how it goes. They are cheap, so no great loss if your dog doesn't like it, But if it does, you'll have a great time with them. Best $3 I could spend

Tie a Knot in it if it rips
Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 6", Style: Plush Surprise Color, Size: 6"
My puppy split the middle belly seam in about 5 minutes of spirited play with the white foam and squeak assembly scattered about, but he loves these loofa toys - goes nuts for them. Went through a couple of the little $3 ones so I tried this big one which he ripped apart. But I tied a knot in the middle of it over the ripped part and guess what, it's better than before. He loves the whipping the big knot around. The part where it ripped was where they filled it I think but the rest of the stitching is really quite solid. Takes a beating, to a point. The little ones lasted a reasonable time before they were totally played.
