Introducing the stunning string of fishhooks, scientifically known as Senecio radicans glauca, which is a trailing succulent variety of the Senecio radicans.

The fish hook plant, also known as the blue pickle vine, is a hybrid trailing succulent that belongs to the Asteraceae family and is native to South Africa. The name "string of fish hook" comes from its distinctive appearance, as its leaves resemble tiny fishhooks.

This fishhook Senecio plant features long, slender stems that cascade down, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or trailing down from shelves.

The stems are covered in small, cylindrical leaves that grow in pairs along the stems.

When the fishhooks plant has the proper growing conditions it grows very quickly and can get up to 32 feet tall. Whether you grow Fishhooks Senecio indoors or out, just make sure you give it room to trail!

The flowers of a string of fishhooks bloom from late summer to winter with daisy-like flowers. These delicate blooms are typically a creamy white or pale-yellow color and appear sporadically. While the Senecio flowers are not the main attraction of this hanging plant, they add a lovely touch when they do appear.

Most sites mix up the string of fishhook and string of bananas plants, but the glauca fishhook differs from the string of bananas (Senecio radicans) by having smaller, cylindrical leaves resembling fishhooks and a bluish-green color, whereas the string of bananas has elongated, banana-shaped leaves and a bright green color. Furthermore, the shape of 'Hooks' is longer and flatter than that of the string of bananas, which is rounded with a plump shape.

The Senecio radicans glauca fish hooks can be propagated from leaf or stem cuttings. This fish hook plant is not frost-hardy and winter-dormant. Avoid placing it directly under ACs, as it may cause leaves to droop. The fish hook plant looks best in hanging baskets as well as pots hung on walls. These can be grown in the driveway too.

Watering Needs

Succulents, like the Senecio Fish Hook plant, are excellent at withstanding drought or drought-tolerant fish hook plants. That's because the foliage of these succulent plants has the capacity to store water. Their leaves will explode if the soil is excessively wet or if you give them too much water.

Therefore, you typically only need to let the roots completely dry before watering them again. Watering them before they are completely dry can cause the roots to soak up water, which is bad because they are particularly prone to rotting. When your string of fishhook plants and roots get mushy, you'll recognize that something is wrong.

If you notice the leaves trimming or wrinkling, this indicates that your Senecio plant needs to be watered. You ought to water these plants once every two weeks or so during the height of their growing season.

You can dramatically cut back on that in the winter and only do it once a month. It's important to check the moisture level of the soil by sticking your finger about an inch deep into the soil. If it feels dry, it's time to water. If it still feels moist, wait a few more days before watering.

Light Requirements

The glauca string of fishhooks prefers bright, indirect sunlight. If you are growing his hanging plant indoors it thrives when placed near a window with filtered sunlight or in a well-lit area of your home. Remember to rotate the fish hooks plant occasionally to ensure all sides receive adequate light for even growth.

When outdoors, ensure light shade and full sun indoors. Avoid exposing your fishhook plant to direct sunlight, as it can cause the leaves to burn.

If you notice the leaves stretching or becoming pale, it might indicate that the Senecio plant is not receiving enough light, so you can try moving it to a brighter location.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The fishhook plant prefers well-draining soil. A good option is a succulent potting mix, which provides the right balance of moisture retention and drainage. You can also create your own potting mix by combining regular potting soil with perlite or pumice to improve drainage.

Planet Desert specializes in succulents and has specialized succulent potting soilGo to soil cactus mix blend 1 gal 4 qt cacti succulent dirt compost growing media that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your string of fishhook Senecios thrive.

When it comes to fertilizing, these fishhook plants don't require heavy feeding. A balanced (5-10-5) natural NPK fertilizer can be applied once a year during the growing season of spring. It's important not to over-fertilize, as this can lead to salt buildup in the soil and damage your fishhook succulent.

If the leaves start turning yellow or the Senecio succulent appears unhealthy, it may be a sign of over-fertilization, so it's best to reduce or stop fertilizing until the Senecio plant recovers.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors, they prefer temperatures between 60-80°F during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night. They become mushy when exposed to chilly temperatures for too long. So, throughout the winter, you should bring the pots indoors. If the air in your home is particularly dry, you can increase humidity by placing a tray of water near the plants or using a humidifier.

For outdoor cultivation, your fishhook plant is generally suitable for USDA hardiness zones 10-12. Like many other succulents, they can withstand heat well, but they can only withstand cold or moisture for a brief period of time.

This fishhook Senecio can adapt to both dry and moderately humid environments. However, they may benefit from slightly higher humidity levels, especially during the drier winter months.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and it's always best to observe your specific plant's response to its environment and make adjustments accordingly.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the String of Fishhooks (Senecio radicans glauca) is a fantastic trailing succulent that's perfect for hanging baskets or cascading down shelves. Its unique fishhook-shaped leaves give it a distinctive appearance. This plant loves bright, indirect light, so place it near a window where it can soak up some rays. When it comes to watering, it's best to let the soil dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering. This low-maintenance plant is a great addition to any succulent collection and adds a touch of whimsy to your space.

Give this succulent a try if you're looking for a beautiful plant Senecio radicans glauca - a string of fishhooks to care for!

Can I have Term 2 now?
Format: Kindle
This is by far my favorite book of Lyra's to date. I gobbled this book up so fast, I was so upset I finished it. I know this is going to be a book I reread, just like Fate Hollow Academy. I loved Fate Hollow Academy, so I was excited when Lyra announced she was taking us readers back to Kalista. Although the characters from Fate Hollow are mentioned several times throughout the book, this book is about Pandora and her love interests in the Demon Realm. Before you deep dive into this book, definitely look at the trigger warnings before you start. When Lyra says there's dark themes in this book, she meant it. Also, just know this book does end on a cliffhanger and will probably leave you with as many questions as it did me. Below may contain some minor spoilers, so keep that in mind if you want to keep reading my review. Pandora's first 2 decades of her life are full of torture, hatred, and confinement in a cellar. That is until her father finds her and brings her into the world she was supposed to live in. Because of her upbringing she wasn't acclimated to the Demon world and the way their society works so when she is offered the chance to go to a Demon Reform Accademy, she accepts it to learn the ways of society and how she is supposed to feed. Pandora isn't like the other common demons in this world, no. She, like her father Death, are soul-eaters. Pandora is too scared to release her powers because she doesn't want to kill anyone, so she needs to learn how to feed off of a piece of soul instead of taking the whole thing. Because of who her father is, she's classed as a Noble, and while she doesn't agree with her fellow Noble students, who look down on the "lower" class, she also is faced with 3 Demons who hate her for being a Noble. Theses a lot of back and forth tension which these 3 demons who have issues of their own. One is obsessed with her, and wants to know all of her secrets. One leaks fear all over the place, but also is scared of the "princess" -wink- -wink-. One is a complete drunk who doesn't like her just because he's got family Noble problems. Don't worry, there are 2 other demons who are just the sweetest towards her. One who will get vengeance for anything done to her, he's got Golden Retriever energy around her and touch her and die energy for anyone around her. Finally, there is one who is friends with her even when the whole school is scared of her, who brings her into his dreams and will create nightmares for those who bother her.

This was more than I expected...
Format: Kindle
So...I finished this book at nearly 2am! It was just that hard to put down. I loved that it's set in the same world as Fates Hollow but in the future. Poor Pandora has been through so much but there's light at the end of the tunnel for her. She finally meets her dad and it turns out he's amazing. In order to help her learn about demon society and how to control her magic he sends her to the Demon Reform Academy. There she meets 2 awesome demons who help her and care for her. She also sadly meets her 3 tormentors. I will say though that while they do bully Pandora they also rescue her several times and defend her. They too have traumatizing pasts and can't see the good that is in front of them. Of course demon society needs to be shaken up too since that's part of the problem. I really enjoyed this read. I teared up a few times throughout the book but I liked the characters and that ending...well it looks like 3 in denial are going to need to grovel hard.

MUST READ BOOK!!
Format: Kindle
I was in a huge reading slump, when one of my favorite authors recommended this book in her readers group (The amazing Marie Mistry 🫶) and I absolutely DEVOURED this book. Now I’m in the club crying about having to wait until December for Term 2! This book is about a girl named Pandora who has suffered a life that nobody would ever wish to have. This book is about Pandora learning how to live, learning about herself and what she really wants. She has a long journey to find out all of these things, but she took the first steps in this book and it was beautiful to read. Some of the men in this book are our dream men, Hunter and Reed 😍 and then we have the men who need some work and who we all really just want to beat up until they admit what they really feel, Skel, Bram and Dexter. But that cliffy was a killer and I absolutely cannot wait until the next book!! You have written an absolute dream of a book Lyra and I eagerly await the next installment in this series!!!

AMAZING debut novel!!!
Format: Kindle
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 🌶️🌶️.5 Romance 💘💘💘 Vibes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dual 1st person POV - Ara (26) & Rogue (39 - but looks mid-20s: they can live hundreds of years so this isn't that large of a gap as it could've been which I heavily appreciate lol) Tropes: enemies to lovers, fae/human wars (deep hatred for each other), shifters (dragons- MMC can only partial shift with wings), one horse, one bed, touch her and d!e, found family, abduction turned to freedom The Last Storm is the debut novel from JD Linton and let me tell you, you guys NEED to read this. The plot was engaging and the editing was was amazing (especially for a debut novel). Our FMC, Ara, is stuck in her gilded cage longing for a life outside of her small town. She uses her books to escape and live vicariously through the pages (honestly, relatable). After her father announces her betrothal to her childhood friend (to whom she has no romantic feelings for), Ara tumbles unknowingly into a desperate plot trying to stop the humans from slaughtering the Fae. As one can expect from an enemies to lovers / kidnapper/captive romance, Ara fights her attraction and lust towards our MMC, Rogue (the King of the Fae), for as long as she can. Upon seeing Ara for the first time, Rogue is instantly aware that she is his fated mate (not a spoiler). Since she is the General's only daughter, he plans to abduct her and use her as leverage to stop the brutality. During Ara's time in Rogue's captivity, their banter and chemistry continue to rise until they finally boil over and come together (quite literally, and many times I may add 😉). Here's what I LOVED: - Rogue continuously seeks advice from his elders and deeply respects their opinions and life experience and tries to implement their recommendations - Rogue makes many mistakes in the beginning but we see him actively work on not repeating them as the book progresses. The level of self-awareness and his ability to change his behavior was impressive - The magic system is intricate and we have only scraped the surface. As the series continues and Ara progresses in her powers, I'm sure we'll get to see more of this. I absolutely LOVE the messaging system that is used in this book. - Ara's struggles are so human and so raw. She is experiencing so much guilt and pain and hurt and getting to see her work through each of these emotions is inspiring. Especially as her and Rogue get closer and she learns she can lean on him as well, that she is not alone. - While this is the start of a series, there is NO cliffhanger! There's a bit of a teaser of something major that is going to happen at the start of the next book, but it's not a cliffhanger in the sense that we aren't sure if someone is going to live or d!e or if they'll be separated. For that, I am very thankful! This book was so much fun that I will definitely be returning to book 2, even if it takes several months (or longer since this is an debut author) to publish! - Lastly, the cover is GORGEOUS! And I love the title! I'll copy a few of my favorite quotes below so you can have a little taste of the author's writing and the world she's cultivated. 😊 Top Highlights from The Last Storm On days like this, when my heart was heavy and my mind clouded, I resorted to books— to escape, to forget, to find freedom where I had none. If I were to marry him, my face would always be turned to the window, searching for more, and if not that, I would be a shell of the person I am now. I stepped back to admire her, thr0bbing at the sight. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. To ever exist. Nothing, no one, had ever deserved to be worshiped more. All men should be made to kneel before her. But she would have to settle for me. The taste of her met my t0ngue as my scent merged with hers, forever branding her. Mine. I l!cked the wound. Hers. Completely and utterly hers. I didn’t claim her in ownership. I claimed her as my one. Devoted myself to one. With that mark, my body and soul were bound to her. I would never be with anyone else, emotionally or physically. It would be her or no one, until my last breath. “Scream my name. Let everyone know who I belong to.” I had never really cared about the weather before, but now, clear skies meant everything to me, and I was grateful to see another calm morning. “There will never be another woman for me.” He paused. “Ever.” I stilled at his words. “What… Why?” “This”— his thumb slid down across the mark—“ is a symbol of… surrender. I know you believe that it was my claim upon you, but it wasn’t. It never was. I bound my body and soul to you, little storm.” “I also know that it is more than this tiny, insignificant mark on your skin that binds me to you. It’s you. All of you. Your strength and resilience. Your determination to endure no matter what fate throws at you. Your love for love and stories and hope. You are entirely the opposite of everything that I am and I would gladly wear your shackles if it meant I could have you.” My mate. Mine. And then everything shifted and I understood. I understood everything. The surrender. The deep, soul-craving longing. Bound. I was bound to him. Body and soul. Entirely his. “I would’ve waited forever,” he whispered back, understanding. Seriously, everyone.. add this to your TBR!!

A Decent Fae Romance
Format: Kindle
** 3.5 Stars rounded up to 4 ** First off I want to say that I found the author, J. D. Linton, on TikTok right before the release of the sequel. I bought the first 2 books to support her release, so congrats to her for the release of the sequel! Overall, I liked the story & plot, I liked the characters, and I liked the spice. The downfalls: not enough development between the characters for the romance, and it leaned a little heavy into the tropes. A lot of stuff is told to you, which could have been used as devices to drive the plot and emotions of the characters. 🛑🛑 Mild Spoilers ahead, I tried to hide the obvious ones 🛑🛑 This is very obviously a fated mates, which is a trope I usually really enjoy. But I wish the relationship between Ara & Rogue had much more development before it's realized that they're mates, instead of Rogue knowing almost immediately and using it for nefarious purposes (at least in the beginning before they get to know each other). By revealing this within the first quarter of the book, I feel like it leaves less room for them to fall for each other organically (albeit with help from the mating bond) and they love each other because of the mating bond. I was disappointed as soon as Rogue know (literally only 5% in) and I literally made a note: "As much as II love a good mating trope, I wish we had to work for it a little more. Where's the fun in just telling us?" I believe that by holding out and feeding the reader snippets of a potential bond, it would've been more rewarding as a reader. I also wish there was more world building - we are told of a war between human & fae but don't get to really experience any of it. Ara is sheltered in her human home, then sheltered in Rogue's castle. There's bits and pieces about what the war has done on either side - but we're more told of the aftermath and don't really experience any of it. Ara's father is supposed to be the king's #1 general - yet he is at home with his family & with Ara for the first couple chapters. Her, her family, nor her village seem to be affected by the 10 year war going on on their borders. I wish there was a little more setup to make this conflict - an actual war - feel more than a skirmish between fighting territories. Linton could also be a little repetitive - with the biggest culprit being when Ara is upset she "brings [her] knees to [her] chest]" and either sits like that or cries. Every time she is upset this phrase is mentioned. I would get it if this was her crutch, or how she copes with grief and stress, but that should be explained why she does it so often or it becomes repetitive. I started to get annoyed with how often she would sit like this solely because it happens every couple chapters. However, I did really like the spice. I love an enemies to lovers trope, especially when it results in spicy scenes. The spicy scenes weren't anything new, but they were fun. Wish there were more but that could also just be me - there is no such thing as too much spice 😂 Would I read again? Probably not, I'm super picky with rereads. Although I did genuinely enjoy my first read through! Will I continue the series? Probably, at least for the sequel. As for #3, kind of depends on where I am with my TBR once that is released All in all an enjoyable, fast paced read
