Mullein Seed Pods

"Natures Respiratory Care"

(Verbascum Thapsus)

You will receive several seed capsules (pods). Each capsule can contain up to 700 seeds! Seeds are non-GMO, untreated heirloom.

Grow your own mullein — a beloved, self-seeding biennial known for its tall yellow flower spikes and soft, silvery leaves. This wild plant is not only striking in the garden but deeply valued in herbal traditions for its leaves, flowers, and roots.

Our seed pods are hand-harvested from healthy, wild mullein plants, then carefully dried and stored in airtight jars prior to shipping to protect their natural vitality.

Fun Fact:  A mature plant can produce more than 100,000 seeds. Seeds in the soil can survive for more than 35 years.

How to Plant Mullein

  • When to plant: Early spring or late fall (cold-stratification improves germination)
  • Where to plant: Full sun, well-drained soil; mullein thrives in poor or rocky soils
  • How to plant:
    • Scatter seeds on the surface of the soil — do not bury; light aids germination
    • Water gently and keep moist until sprouted (10–20 days)
    • Thin seedlings to 12–18 inches apart once established

Growing Notes

Biennial lifecycle:

  • Year 1: Rosette of soft, woolly leaves
  • Year 2: Tall flower stalk (up to 6 feet), blooms midsummer
  • Drought-tolerant, low-maintenance once established
  • Will often self-seed in the garden or wild spaces if allowed

These seeds are perfect for herbal gardens, pollinator patches, or wild borders. Let nature do most of the work — mullein prefers to grow wild and simple.

Why Grow Your Own Mullein?

There’s something deeply rewarding about growing your own medicinal herbs — and mullein is one of the most giving plants you can welcome into your space.

  • Year-Round Herbal Access

Growing mullein means you’ll have fresh access to its leaves, flowers, and eventually roots, all of which are used in traditional remedies for respiratory health, pain support, and inflammation.

  • Harvest What You Need, When You Need It

When you grow your own, you control harvest timing, drying methods, and storage, ensuring peak potency and quality for your herbal preparations — no questions about sourcing or shelf life.

  • Pollinator-Friendly

Mullein’s tall yellow flower spikes are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects, helping support your local ecosystem.

  • Low Maintenance & Self-Sufficient

Once established, mullein needs very little care. It’s drought-tolerant, loves poor soil, and often self-seeds, returning year after year in the right conditions.

  • Visually Stunning

Aside from its medicinal value, mullein is a striking ornamental with its soft silvery rosette in year one and tall golden stalks in year two — adding wild beauty to your garden, border, or field.

Whether you're blending your own teas, salves, or tinctures — or simply letting it stand tall and golden in the garden — growing mullein brings herbal tradition home.

Not real strong...
Pattern Name: Plastic Spoons
Spoons work well enough but are NOT heavy duty. These struggle with ice cream; they bend easily.

I accidentally chose tea spoons rather than soup spoons, but this was still a great deal. I'm happy!
