As the plant matures, older lower leaves gradually shed and reveal a ringed cane with foliage held near the top. Mature stems may branch from active nodes, creating several leafy heads while keeping the plant’s outline tall and tidy indoors.

Care for bright cane growth
- Light: Place in bright to moderate filtered light. Shield the pale bands from harsh midday sun, which can leave dry marks.
- Watering: Let the upper half to two-thirds of the mix dry before watering thoroughly and emptying any standing water.
- Root zone: Use a free-draining indoor mix with bark, pumice, perlite or similar mineral material for steady aeration.
- Warmth: Keep around 18–27 °C and protect the pot from cold draughts, especially after watering.
- Leaf care: Wipe dust from the long blades so the striped surface stays clean and well lit.
- Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. Salt build-up and heavy fertiliser can show quickly on pale leaf tissue.
- Repotting: Move up only when roots have filled the pot, using a container that drains freely and holds the cane securely.
- Pruning: Tall canes can be shortened in warm growing conditions; healthy nodes below the cut may push new shoots.

- Brown tips: Review water quality, dry heat, fertiliser strength and irregular watering before trimming the damaged edges.
- Fast yellowing: Check drainage and root moisture if several leaves yellow together, especially in lower light.
- Soft cane base: Inspect the lower stem and roots after repeated wet conditions or a cold, damp spell.
- Dry pale patches: Move the plant back from intense sun if the lightest bands become tan or papery.
- Hidden pests: Look along leaf bases and cane joints for scale, mealybugs or fine webbing before damage spreads.
Pet and household safety
Dracaena fragrans 'Lemon Lime' contains saponins that can upset cats and dogs if the leaves are eaten. Place the plant away from chewing pets and clear away trimmed or fallen foliage.
Botanical name and etymology
The genus name Dracaena comes from Greek drakaina, meaning female dragon, a reference connected with dragon-tree resin in the wider genus. The species epithet fragrans means fragrant and refers to the scented flowers, which are uncommon on indoor plants. Older references may still use Dracaena deremensis for striped forms in this group.

I'm impressed. I have used cooling pillow cases before, and found them effective, but the cooling material have always been on just one side. These are 100% cooling material. The material is super smooth and silky feeling. It is great feeling against hair and skin (even better than my old polyester satin I was using before cooling pillowcases). The material is cool, and does not seem to get hot hot. The pillow cases are super stretchy with a small hidden zipper. They grab onto the pillow and dont loosen up. Makes my pillow look neat and clean, not sloppy from loose material. I can even have two pillows stacked and somehow despite being a smooth material, the pillows dont just slide off each other.
The cooling aspect works by not trapping heat, not allowing heat to get to the pillow and hold it there. So yeh, the pillow case will feel warm eventually but if you have a fan, or AC, or flip the pillow, then it is is truly cool. Otherwise in my experience when I use a pillow without this, the pillow just gets hot, stays hot, and even with flipping it feels hot.. because the pillow itself has trapped the heat for remainder of night. Yuck.
One thing to know and this is very important-- as I learned the hard way-- DO NOT DRY IN DRYER. DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER. Heat will destroy the material ability to feel and stay cool. Do you want a regular heat trapping pillow case? Then go ahead and dry these in the dryer a few times and you will have a regular pillow case. HOw do I know? I bought these to replace another set (different brand, same idea, same instructions that I failed to remember). I always dried them in the dryer, and one night after having gloriously cool pillows, I noticed that my pillow was HOT night after night. It was then when looking for another set of pillow cases that I learned that they cant be exposed to heat like that. SO PLEASE, just AIR DRY.
And so, after I got these and put them on my pillows, I had a much better nights rest. I remember thinking that I wasnt waking to rearrange my pillows. They were just comfortable all night long. Sure, I'd love an even colder pillow, but our room is on the warm side. But at least I wasnt noting the hot hot pillows anymore.

Awesome cases! They really are cool to the touch. I didn’t sleep hot at all. I have a “cut-out” memory foam pillow, and this stretched around it perfectly. It is flexible enough that it doesn’t impede with the cut out. And while the material is “silky,” it doesn’t slide around the pillow while sleeping on it. The zipper feature is perfect. I washed and dried per the tag instructions and they washed very well. Super happy.
