Portulacaria Afra Tree "Elephant Bush" Portulacaria afra, a South African native, is also known as Small-Leaf Jade or Elephant Bush (due to it being part of the African elephant's diet). This succulent makes an excellent plant for beginning bonsai enthusiasts due to its easy care and ability to take to many shapes. In its natural environment the may grow as tall as 12 feet. Because this plant is not a North American native, it cannot be collected in the wild but may be purchased from DallasBonsai.com throughout most of the year. Tree's Attributes: The trunk of this fleshy wooded succulent is green on young plants, turning to a smooth reddish-brown as the plant ages. The dark green leaves are small and round, opposite, and thick because of their high moisture retention. The small blossoms range from pale pink to purplish, and will only bloom in winter when the plant senses changes in the amount of sunlight. Temperature/Lighting/Location: Elephant Bush Tree is considered a true indoor and outdoor bonsai, tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions. It is, however, a tropical and as such cannot be exposed to long periods of cold; freezing temperatures will kill it. When grown indoors the plant should be exposed to natural sunlight through a window, and if not possible, fluorescent lights placed very close to it. Full outdoor sun in appropriate climates will result in fast growth of foliage. Watering: Portulacaria afra, being a succulent, does not need frequent watering. While it will tolerate more water than many bonsai, still, be cautious about over-watering – allow the soil to become nearly dry in between watering. The interesting thing about these plants is that unlike most bonsai, jade gives off clearly visible signs of needing water – the leaves become flattened and may wrinkle. Always use a well-draining soil. Fertilizing: Elephant Bush Tree should be fertilized about every four weeks throughout spring and summer with a well-balanced formula. No special mix or instructions are required. This is a fast-growing bonsai when fertilized and cared for properly. Refrain from fertilizing in the winter. Pruning/Training: Shapes – informal upright, root-over-rock, slanting, full cascade. Forest arrangements can also be quite striking with this specimen. These succulent bonsai are difficult to train by wiring. The branches are fragile and tend to break under too much pressure. Pinching foliage and guiding branch growth via pruning are more effective ways of achieving the shape you want. Extensive pruning is easier if the plant is allowed to dry before removing larger branches and roots.

As a passionate home barista, I recently incorporated the WDT Espresso Distribution Tool into my espresso routine, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. This tool is a game-changer, providing unparalleled precision in coffee distribution. Here's why it deserves a solid 5-star review: Pros: Seven Needle Design: The 0.35mm seven needles of the WDT tool are ingeniously crafted, ensuring uniform distribution of coffee grounds in the portafilter. This results in a more consistent and even extraction, elevating the quality of each shot. Eliminates Clumping: One of the standout features is its ability to eliminate clumping effectively. The fine needles effortlessly break up any clumps in the coffee grounds, guaranteeing a smooth and even bed for tamping. User-Friendly: The WDT tool is incredibly easy to use. The ergonomic design allows for a comfortable grip, and the needles move smoothly through the coffee grounds. It has become an essential part of my pre-brew routine, taking only seconds to create a uniform coffee bed. Sturdy Build: The build quality is top-notch. The stainless steel construction not only gives the tool a premium feel but also ensures durability. It's a tool that feels like it's built to last, making it a worthwhile investment for any espresso enthusiast. Enhanced Espresso Flavor: The consistent distribution achieved with the WDT tool translates to a more balanced and flavorful espresso. The precision it offers has noticeably improved the taste profile of my shots. Easy to Clean: Cleaning the WDT tool is a breeze. The design minimizes any grounds getting stuck, and a quick rinse under water is all it takes to keep it ready for the next use. In summary, the WDT Espresso Distribution Tool has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its thoughtful design, impeccable construction, and the positive impact on espresso quality make it a must-have for any serious home barista. Sturdy tool for improving coffee distribution
Color: Black
For those who do not know what this tool does: The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions. Who needs this tool: Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example. Quality: The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand. Outcome: I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

Top quality tool that improves espresso extraction
Color: Gray
Fantastic and easy to use. Stand sits on top of espresso machine and the WDT tool is always ready, no unscrewing. Upgraded from a screw-shut version and couldn't be happier. Comes with extra needles which I hope to never need. Easy to recommend

Makes a difference but maybe only to caffeine addled coffee snobs
Color: Black
I won't say that everyone urgently needs one of these. This is helped me up my game. Perhaps not absolutely necessary, but it noticeably reduces canalization and improves extraction. And it appears to have improved not only my espresso, but my pour-overs and my Mokapot (especially the Mokapot!). It's a little fiddley to assemble - there's sets of springs and needles - but once you get it all locked down, its very tight. There's a set of spares - I can't imagine needing them. The tool kinda sits in the weighted base, but it appears to stay put in my cabinet.
