DESCRIPTION

Dwarf Variegated White Jade (Portulacaria Afra)

A fleshy, softly woody shrub or small tree up to 3m to 4m, often sprawling; occurring on dry rocky hillsides and in succulent scrub. Portulacaria Afra, also called “Elephant Plant” or “Small Leaf Jade” is relatively new in bonsai but one that almost anyone can grow. It can withstand long periods without water making them excellent plants for beginners. 

Advanced students of bonsai find them excellent material because they adapt to any style and develop relatively fast. The bark is green when young, becoming red-brown to slate grey, and smooth with conspicuous leaf scars. Leaves are simple, opposite, almost circular.

You will receive a plant similar to the one shown in the picture. Note that plant may not have flowers or fruit on them depending on the time of year.

It can be grown outdoors in full sun or indoors with sufficient light.


🌡️ Temperature 🌡️

Portulacaria will tolerate a variety of growing conditions. Since it is tropical it must be protected from cold temperatures (below 45 degrees Fahrenheit).

💧 Watering 💧

Always allow the soil to approach dryness before watering. Although it is a succulent, Portulacaria is not as particular about overwatering as most other succulents.

We use a slow release fertilizer like Osmocote which releases for 90 days

It’s a hard no from me

I ordered two of these black, single screen panels several months ago. I ordered an additional four I needed a few days ago so I would have the total of 6 that I ended up needing. I did so by clicking on my past order (2 screens) item page and simply placed my recent order for 4 more. Two of the six screens have bolts that don’t fully screw down, such that one of each panel’s four points where the screen attaches to the two legs isn’t fully screwed down and flush. As a result, the screen doesn’t stay entirely vertical -It’s warped askew. Also, 3 of the six screens are different heights than the other 3. It’s clear to me that this company has ZERO QUALITY CONTROL, as there’s not anything that is even adjustable on these screens that leaves room for user error. Additionally, there are four black rubber circles that come in the “parts/screws” bag that don’t have corresponding installation instructions in the instruction manual. Just spend a little more and go with a better quality product somewhere else.

I did like how the whole thing was move-able but it was a bit annoying so I just added extra clips to the left of the middle one and unscrewed the right of the middle at the bottom so it opens like a door, this did make it a bit flimsy but duck taping it to the wall as anchor it works. 100% recommend, but do suggest a drill and a second set of hands to put it together, due to its size it can be a bit difficult to maneuver putting together yourself. Also if you have a clingy cat like I do, and think this will help keep them out, no, my cat who is very large can manage to squeeze underneath it.
