Aquascaping tip: Let runners spread naturally along the substrate for a low carpet effect in the foreground, or allow stems to grow toward the surface for a mid-ground accent. Works beautifully alongside fine-leafed plants like foxtail or hornwort for contrast.

Two ways to grow

Most aquatic plants are strictly one or the other. Pennywort thrives in both — use it in a planted tank as a foreground or midground accent, or let it grow above the waterline in a paludarium, indoor water garden, or outdoor tub pond. The same bundle works for either setup.

(Q) Do I need CO₂ injection to grow this successfully?
= CO₂ is optional, not required. Pennywort grows at a medium pace without it under medium to high lighting. Adding CO₂ will accelerate growth and keep leaves a brighter, richer green — but most hobbyists grow it successfully in standard low-tech setups. A weekly liquid fertilizer is the more impactful upgrade if you want to improve results without CO₂ equipment.
(Q) Can I really grow this outside the water, and how does that work?
= Yes — Pennywort is a true amphibious plant. When grown emergent (above the waterline), it produces slightly larger, more upright leaves and often grows more vigorously than when fully submerged. You can place it in a paludarium, a shallow water dish, or an outdoor pond or tub garden with its roots wet. It's the same plant shipped to you — no special emergent variety needed.
(Q) How does it spread, and will it take over my tank?
= Pennywort spreads through horizontal runners along the substrate — new plantlets emerge naturally a few inches from the parent stem. Growth is medium-paced, so it fills in gradually rather than explosively. You can let runners spread freely for a natural carpet effect, or trim and redirect them to keep it contained. It will not aggressively crowd out neighboring plants the way fast stem plants sometimes do.

Heavy chewer approved.

My pomsky will destroy a toy in minutes. Ropes, and the "indestructible" nylon type stuffs are no match for my furry shark. This ball has stood up to him like David. He loves the crunch and it is so much more tolerable than a squeaker. These will be a staple in his toy box - Chuckit toys are really the most durable dog toys I have found in three years.

Dogs love them

Our dogs love these. What’s great is that you can add more plastic (like from water bottles) if the plastic starts to fall out from the center. If you have a chewer, though, these won’t last you long. Our shepherd mix loves these and then starts to pull the rubber apart the more she plays with it. Our other dogs treat it normally, though, and those ones last forever. They also get some decent height when bounced, and they make a unique whistling noise when thrown.

Our pup loves the cronch cronch!

I bought our 15 month old Coton several Chuck-It toys on an Amazon deal. He is incredibly playful, mischievous, and ball/toy obsessed, especially for anything that makes noise. He can also be very destructive so I love how durable most of their products are - they’re among our longest lasting toys and worth every penny. We have yet to take them to the dog park, but they’re a perfect size for sharing in play time. And they are keeping him busy at home - that’s a good thing.
He loves investigating the crunchy-cronchy-crinkly sound which is a nice change from squeakers. It can withstand his destructive chewing well-being, gentle on his little teeth. I love that. Chuck-It is thinking outside the box with a variety of balls to keep dogs engaged! I do worry about the crinkle plastic inside because it is accessible because of the air holes and it feels a little sharp. So this will have to be an at home toy so we can monitor his play.
