Variegated Gold Philodendron Selloum, also known as the variegated split leaf philodendron, is a bold architectural statement plant prized for its deeply cut foliage splashed with golden yellow to creamy variegation. Each large, glossy leaf is uniquely patterned, creating strong contrast against the rich green base. As it matures, it forms a broad, self supporting clump with dramatic, tropical presence. The gold variegation adds brightness and rarity to an already iconic foliage plant, making it ideal as a feature specimen in spacious, light filled interiors.

Position & Light

Prefers bright indirect light to maintain strong variegation. Can tolerate medium light but colour contrast may reduce. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which can scorch lighter sections. In New Zealand homes, position near a bright north facing window set back from direct sun or near an east facing window.

Watering

Allow the top third to half of the potting mix to dry before watering. Keep evenly moist during active growth but never waterlogged. Reduce watering frequency in winter. Ensure the pot drains freely to prevent root rot.

Humidity

Adapts well to average indoor humidity but thrives in moderate to higher humidity. Increased humidity supports larger leaf development and reduces browning on variegated sections.

Soil

Use a rich but well draining indoor potting mix with added bark and perlite for structure and airflow. A chunky aroid blend works well for established specimens.

Feeding

Feed monthly through spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. Avoid over fertilising as this can affect variegation. Pause feeding in winter.

Growth Habit

A self heading, non climbing plant that forms a thick central trunk over time. Mature plants widen significantly and produce increasingly large, deeply lobed leaves. Allow adequate space for growth.

Difficulty

Moderate. Requires strong light and careful watering to maintain healthy variegation. Best suited to growers comfortable managing larger foliage plants.

Pet Safety

Toxic if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals that may cause irritation to pets and humans.

Good for Teething puppies
Color: Teething Stick
After getting my fingers chewed and bitten by my new foster - 8 week old Yorkie , I was desperate to find good teething toys. Fortunately this one arrived quickly. Turned out to be very good for teething puppies! Charlie loves this cooling stick. Once it’s frozen, the cold really seems to soothe his sore gums. The icy part doesn’t stay frozen for long, but it works so well that I bought a second one to keep ready in the freezer while he’s working on the first. Even after it warmed up, he still enjoyed chewing on the soft stuffed part and the tentacles. The product card says not to use it as a chew toy, so supervision is a must, but it held up just fine so far. Overall, this has been a big help during the teething phase — short-lived when frozen, but very effective while it lasts! And worth every penny to save my fingers from being a chew toy.

Perfect for the aggressive chewer
Color: Purple
I purchased these because I have a 1-year-old black lab redbone coonhound mix who destroys every toy and Bone. I have gotten him in a short amount of time... These things have outstanded this little guy and he is still enjoying them! Keeps him occupied and satisfies his chewing for hours! And he leaves my shoes alone haha

Best for all chewers!
Color: Purple, Color: Purple
I purchased in February and waited until ive had them long enough to make a justified review. I have a very VERY aggressive chewer. He destroys every toy he gets within minutes or a hour. We didnt expect much out of these but why not. Let me tell you... they only have small teeth dents. No cracks, no breaks, no chunks missing, none in the trash, no bleeding gums... nothing. My chewer loves them. First day he just stared at them like they were alien objects but after we played fetch a few times it was on!! Now all three dogs chewer on them. I would say im purchasing again but I dont know when that will be lol I highly recommend to anyone!! Photo is taken today 6/4/26

My pit bull loves them.
Color: Purple
I picked up the Frienhund Tough Dog Toys 3-pack for my large, heavy chewer, and overall I’m pretty impressed. Right out of the box, the toys feel solid and well-made—definitely more durable than your average chew toy. My dog usually destroys new toys within a day or two, but these have held up significantly longer, which is a big win. They also do a great job of keeping him occupied. The shapes and textures seem to keep his interest, and I’ve noticed less destructive chewing on furniture since introducing these. That alone makes them worth it. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that while they’re very tough, they’re not completely “indestructible” (despite the claim). After a couple of weeks of heavy use, there are some visible wear marks. Still, compared to most other toys we’ve tried, these last much longer. Overall, a great option for medium to large dogs that are aggressive chewers—durable, engaging, and a solid value for a 3-pack.
