Not only does the car seat look and feel luxurious, but it’s also super easy for parents to use and super safe for little ones. You’ll be traveling with peace of mind with this car seat!
Some of the new safety features of the UPPAbaby Mesa Max infant car seat include a load leg, an anti-rebound panel, and a redesigned headrest for better impact protection. The carry handle can even be used for extra anti-rebound! Keeping your little one safe is UPPAbaby’s top priority, and this car seat will protect your little one in a worst-case scenario.
UPPAbaby kept the parents in mind with this design, too. Installation has never been easier. With the SmartSecure® System for use with LATCH connectors and a bubble level on the base, you’ll always know when the seat is properly installed. If you aren’t using LATCH connectors, the seat can still be installed without the base by using its European routing system. The Mesa Max is also compatible with many UPPAbaby strollers.
This car seat is available in five colors and two fabric types. Both options are GREENGUARD Gold Certified and free of chemicals. The Merino wool option offers additional plusses, being hypoallergenic, temperature regulating, and moisture wicking.
Features of the Mesa Max Infant Carrier:
- Infinite adjustable headrest: Reinforced with EPP foam, this headrest absorbs energy and protects your baby’s head during a collision with the Side Impact Protection design. This headrest is larger than in previous models and more adjustable to provide a safer, more custom fit.
- Infant insert: The UPPAbaby Mesa Max comes with an infant inlay to make the seat suitable for infants between 4-11 lbs. It can be used longer than the previous models, which were only suitable for up to 8 lbs. This insert is made with a contoured design to fit newborns for better airway management and body positioning.
- European routing system: With the European routing system, you can use this car seat without the base! For those times when it’s more convenient to travel without the base, like in a cab, rental car, or airplane, your Mesa Max can still be installed securely and safely. The belt path on this model is bigger than before and secures the seat with three points of contact.
- 4th handle position for anti-rebound: For additional safety against rear-impact collisions or when installed without the base, the handle can act as an anti-rebound bar.
- No-rethread, adjustable harness: Adjusting your baby’s harness is super easy with the no-rethread design. This harness also adjusts with the headrest.
- UPF 25+ hideaway canopy: The canopy has been redesigned to be 43% larger, providing additional sun protection and privacy. Extending and contracting the canopy is also quieter than before for your baby’s comfort.
- Side ventilation: This car seat had additional airflow and ventilation, perfect for keeping your baby comfortable on hot days.
- Belt path to hold harness straps: When placing your infant in the seat, use the belt paths to hold the harness out of the way! You won’t have to struggle with holding the harness while trying to get your baby comfortable.
- Compatible with UPPAbaby strollers: The UPPAbaby Mesa Max is compatible with the UPPAbaby Vista and Cruz strollers. With the purchase of additional adapters, it is also compatible with the UPPAbaby Minu and Ridge strollers. The seat has a stroller release button on the handle.
- One-crotch buckle position: To reduce guesswork and adjustment hassle, the crotch buckle on this car seat doesn’t need to be repositioned.
- Dual Knit and Merino wool: Both fabric options for the stroller are naturally fire retardant. The fabrics and foams contain no fire retardant chemicals and are GREENGUARD Gold Certified to support healthier air quality and lower chemical emissions. The Merino wool option is naturally hypoallergenic, temperature-regulating, and moisture-wicking. Whichever option you choose, you’ll receive high-quality, eco-friendly materials.
- Removable, washable fabric: For easy cleaning, the seat fabric is removable and washable. Never worry about spills or other messes!
Features of the Mesa Max base:
- Load leg: The included, adjustable load leg comes with an installation indicator so you know when it’s properly installed. The load leg helps stabilize the car seat and limits forward rotation in a crash, reducing the potential for head and neck injury. Using the leg is optional and can be removed in case
- Anti-rebound+ panel: For additional safety, the rebound panel limits rotation and movement during a rear-impact collision.

UPPAbaby SmartSecure® System: With self-retracting LATCH connectors and red-to-green tightness indicators, installing the Mesa Max base is quick and easy. You’ll know your base is properly installed when the tightness indicators turn from red to green–no guesswork necessary!
- Bubble level indicator: Located on both sides of the base, the bubble level indicators help you ensure the seat is installed at the proper angle.
- Four-position, adjustable foot: The adjustable foot with four positions aids in achieving the correct angle of installation no matter the angle of the car’s seat.

Enjoyable, entertaining, engrossing

The Three Women, their JMT trail name, is a delightful read. You experience the beauty of nature and the wonders seen in the trail. You also experience the fear and anxiety that come with making such a trek. The bonds of friendship and support between the three and also all the other through hikers. An amazing read, the perfect balance of nature, friendship, compassion, struggle, and determination. Immerse yourself in this well written book.

An epic adventure, page after page!
Format: Paperback
Many women dream of making this hike (I once did) but few lace up their boots and get on the trail. And even a tiny fraction of those who DO realize their goal, could capture the experience like Joan Griffin. I read several chapters a night and always looked forward to getting back on the trail with her from my rocking chair.
The grandeur of the sights, the wonder of seeing the world well above 8,000 feet ~ for 27 days ~ reads like a personal diary. Every perspective, high and low, is captured: the practical issues of carrying on even with a twisted ankle on Day 1, then blisters, surviving sudden weather changes, confronting inner doubts, securing essential food and water, and losing the camera enrich the book in an authentic style.
In between all this, the reader remembers that it all took place with 40 pound backpacks on their backs!
It's a magical but real-life journey with the inevitable personality differences of the Three Women, as well as their uniquely personal reasons to hike. As the brave heroes arrive to the finish line, one is aware of the power of grace that accompanied them all along.
Yes, this experience changed the hikers but it also changes the reader. Being aware of those who live curiously and courageously provides a kind of encouragement for us to do the same, even after age 50.

Inspirational Read

Griffin, J. M. (2023). Force of nature: Three women tackle the John Muir Trail. Black Rose Writing.
Joan Griffin loves exploring and lives in the Northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Five legs, 27 days, 195.9 miles, this is a memoir of three 50+ women hiking the John Muir Trail located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. Each day receives its own chapter providing a vivid description of the trail, challenges, and beauty. Walking created an "unpredictable reality," that was "bigger in every conceivable way than [her] imagination could have conjured." As you read through the story, you are transported to the trail, so vivid her recollections and descriptions of their experiences. She wore a necklace with the words strength, courage, and spirit; a mantra that served her well along the journey. Griffin found: "I found my very soul had acclimated to the natural world, and I was completely in tune with the Earth and the sky and the water surrounding me." Such an inspiring memoir!
This would be a good read for 50+ women who need a good dose of inspiration, those who like travel memoirs, and those interested in long-haul walking.

Arm chair traveling on a cold winter retreat

This was the perfect book to get me back into reading! I’ve happily filled my evenings, transported to the John Muir Trail traveled by The Three Women. Your descriptions of such an immense beauty and reflections of your personal journey were at times like being on the trail with you all!

A great tale of women trekking together

This is well -written, enjoyable to read, and like the three women on the trail as a reader you don't want it to end as they near the end of the JMT. Filled with beautiful descriptions of scenery, humorous retelling of some difficult days, and interesting encounters with other people. Even for the non-hiker this book is a fun read.
