Common Name: Silver Sword Philodendron
Origin: Native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil
Description:
The Philodendron Silver Sword is a sleek and striking climbing plant known for its narrow, silvery-blue leaves that resemble the shape of a sword—hence the name. As the plant matures, the leaves become more elongated and deeply lobed, making it a dynamic addition to any plant collection.
This fast-growing aroid adds a bold, futuristic feel to your space and thrives when given something to climb, like a moss pole or totem. It’s a popular choice for plant lovers who want a statement plant with a bit of an edge.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light but may grow slower or become leggy. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the silvery leaves.
Water:
Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of soil is dry. Be careful not to overwater—this plant doesn’t like soggy roots.
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. A regular misting or a nearby humidifier can help, especially during drier months.
Temperature:
Ideal range is between 18°C to 28°C (65°F to 82°F). Keep away from cold drafts or temperature extremes.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix. A blend of indoor potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir works beautifully.
Fertiliser:
Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. No feeding needed in winter.
Pet Friendly:
❌ No. Like most philodendrons, the Silver Sword is toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.
