Pigeon peas are a great source of protein and, when paired with rice, fulfill all 20 of the body’s amino acid requirements.

We love pigeon pea because it’s beginner-friendly, well-suited to the S. Florida climate, and massively productive. We’ve also benefited from utilizing the robust structure of the pigeon pea for small vining plants like mini-cucumbers or butterfly pea.

Collect green pods for fresh cooking or steaming edamame-style; Collect brown pods for long-term storage or re-seeding.

If left to their own devices, Pigeon Pea easily re-seeds on their own. Broadcasting your collected seeds could be an equally fun endeavor.
