Aeonium ‘Kiwi’ (also called Aeonium haworthii ‘Kiwi’ or Tricolor Aeonium) is a hybrid succulent native to the Canary Islands. It’s known for its rosette-shaped leaves that display bright, variegated colors — typically green centers, yellow edges, and pinkish-red tips when grown in bright sunlight.
🌱 Key Characteristics
Feature |
Description |
Growth form |
Rosette-forming succulent, each rosette about 3–5 inches (7–13 cm) across |
Leaves |
Spoon-shaped, smooth, with green centers, yellow margins, and pink/red tips |
Color |
Vibrant when exposed to full sun; greener in shade |
Size |
Small shrub, typically 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) tall |
Flowers |
Star-shaped yellow flowers bloom in summer; appear on tall stalks |

☀️ Care Requirements
Condition |
Best Practice |
Light |
Full sun to partial shade. Needs at least 4–6 hours of sunlight daily for bright coloration. |
Watering |
Use the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then allow soil to dry out completely before watering again. Avoid overwatering. |
Soil |
Well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Add perlite or coarse sand if necessary. |
Temperature |
Prefers 65–75°F (18–24°C). Protect from frost — it’s not cold-hardy below ~40°F (4°C). |
Humidity |
Low humidity preferred; too much moisture can cause rot. |
Fertilizer |
Feed lightly during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted succulent fertilizer. |
🪴 Propagation
Aeonium ‘Kiwi’ is easy to propagate:
- Offsets (pups): Simply remove small rosettes that grow around the base and let them dry for a day or two before planting.
- Stem cuttings: Cut a rosette with a few inches of stem, allow the cut end to callous, then replant in well-draining soil.
⚠️ Common Problems
Issue |
Cause & Solution |
Leaf drop or shriveling |
Too little water or too much heat; water more frequently but don’t soak constantly. |
Mushy leaves / rot |
Overwatering or poor drainage; let soil dry and check roots. |
Pale color |
Too little sunlight. Move to a brighter location. |
Leggy growth |
Insufficient light; prune and re-root cuttings. |
