Aloe variegata, commonly called tiger aloe, is a perennial evergreen succulent plant in the aloe family, Aloeaceae. Aloe variegata is indigenous to South Africa and the Republic of Namibia. The plant grows 8 to 12 inches wide and 18 to 20 inches tall with succulent triangular leaves. Leaves are arranged in a flattened rosette arrangement and have dark green skin with light green stripes or dots. Tiger aloe is commonly grown as an ornamental house plant for its ease of care and vigorous growth. The plant thrives in well draining sandy soil growing in full sun to partial shade. Water adequately during summer and water sparingly during winter. USDA plant hardiness zones 9a to 11b. 

Aloe variegata seedlings thrive in consistent moisture and humidity, but soil should not be soaking wet. Well ventilated containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well draining sterilized soil mix. Seeds should be sown on top of potting mixture and lightly covered with a thin layer of sand or potting mix, just enough to cover the seeds. Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F. Germination typically takes 1 to 2 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
