Wasabi - Japanese Horseradish Root (Eutrema japonicum) Wasabi Japonica Root Heirloom Herb

Perennial

Height: 24 in

Wasabi and horseradish are different plants in the same family. However, most of the so-called wasabi sold outside of, and commonly even within Japan, is simply regular horseradish root that is cut with green food colouring among other things! Wasabi is a slow-growing perennial plant that reaches about 20 to 60 cm (8 to 24 in) in height.

This radish variety, is a Japanese heirloom wasabi radish! It is a medium sized daikon variety with green colored skin and a good sharp heat similar to that of Japanese horseradish paste.

We also offer Wasabina Mustard Greens (B. juncea)

Wasabi We also offer Wasabina Mustard Greens (B. juncea) can be successfully grown in 1 to 2 gallon pots with good potting soil. This allows you to move your plants to cooler areas, or bring them indoors when the weather is too hot or too cold.

  • Full shade
  • Well draining soil
  • Soak seeds overnight in distilled water
  • Sow direct outdoors when risk of frost has passed and again in fall; seeds sprout in 5-7 days and matures in 60 days. Plant  1-2 in apart.
  • Wasabi will only thrive in well drained consistently moist areas with full shade; if a wasabi plant gets sunlight it will deteriorate rapidly hence the reason it is found beneath a natural forest canopy.
  • Wasabi's native habitat in Japan is in a streambed, wasabi is not an aquatic plant and wasabi does not like to be in standing water.  Water well, but do not let the plant sit in drainage water.
  • After initial planting irrigate regularly with cool water. Mist as necessary to keep plants cool and to avoid wilted leaves.
  • Wasabi requires a climate with an air temperature between 8°(46°F) and 20 °C (70°F) and prefers high humidity in summer.
  • Harvest: Roots: Approx 1.5 to 2 years after you plant your wasabi start, the stalk/rhizome can be harvested; this is the part of the wasabi plant that is grated into wasabi paste. To harvest the plant stalk, pull the whole plant up and you will see some offshoots, use these as plant starts. Simply break those off

This sunscreen has worked well for me and I like that it is a mineral formula
Set name: Face - 1.7 oz.
This sunscreen has worked well for me and I like that it is a mineral formula. The main thing to know is that it can take a little effort to rub in fully so you do not see it on your skin, but I do not consider that a major problem. That is pretty normal with many mineral sunscreens, and I would rather deal with that than use something that does not agree with my skin. Once applied, I have been happy with it and have no real complaints. Overall, it has been a good face sunscreen for me.

Best sunscreen ever
Set name: Face - 1.7 oz.
I love how light it is, it doesn’t leave a white cast. It even leaves skin looking glowy. It also feels moisturizing. I have sensitive skin that breaks out with sunscreen. It doesn’t breakout with this one! I also love that it’s hsa eligible! Have already recommended and shared with others. I will never switch to another sunscreen.

Works great but very runny
Set name: Face - 1.7 oz.
I’d call this a liquid and not lotion. It literally pours out of the tube without even squeezing so has to be held upright at all times when the cap is off. Makes a real mess (and I do shake it well before opening as the instructions say). Other than the packaging, I really like the product. It blends well with no white cast after rubbing in, is moisturizing without looking greasy at all or causing breakouts, and has provided good sun protection. Impressed! Also like that while water and sweatproof, it washes off with a gentle face cleanser at the end of the day unlike some of the zinc-based products I’ve tried that leave a thick coating and require scrubbing. This is my first Blue Lizard product and I’ll probably keep using it as a daily sunscreen—but definitely not to throw in a bag and take to the beach because of the messy application. Bought the stick version to try out.

Great for sensitive skin and actually dries clear!
Set name: Body - 3 oz., Set name: Body - 3 oz.
I'm trying to be on top of my sunscreen application after YEARS of never wearing it. My skin is extremely sensitive and prone to eczema. Any chemical sunscreen that was applied to my body (especially the elbow/knee pits) would cause me to break out in horrible eczema patches. I switched to mineral sunscreen, but everything left a ghostly white sheen. Luckily, this sunscreen does exactly as advertised. I've been using it daily for a week straight, and I have had no problems with it. The consistency of this product is thick, kinda sticky at first, and a bit hard to blend/spread out, but I think that's bound to happen with any sunscreen that's actually protective. It may also seem that it leaves a white cast initially, but after letting it dry for a minute or two, it becomes clear. Overall I can't recommend this enough, and I'm glad to finally have a sensitive-skin-friendly mineral sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast :)

Where has this been my whole life
Set name: Face - 1.7 oz., Set name: Face - 1.7 oz.
Let me give you some background. I’m middle eastern. That means I tan well but have two different skin tones; my January skin and my July skin. I wear a watch and I’ve been out of the sun since September. My tan hasn’t totally faded but the lighter band, that’s my real skin color. That’s how I want to be all over. I always try to make better choices in my skin products. I have tried so many mineral based sunscreens for my face and body but I usually end up returning to a chemical based one for several reasons. HOWEVER, I have finally found the product I’ve been searching for. Blue Lizard leaves no white cast on my skin. It’s easy to rub in. It also does not get trapped in my dense, black eyebrows the way other products did. It would gross me out and look like I had flakes in my eyebrows. I just spent the week at Universal Studios and I did not burn. I didn’t tan either, which is great. Tanning is also a sign of sun damage. Chemical or mineral sunscreens often prevent sunburn but I still tan. I don’t want either. I am sold and will continue to buy this product. I feel great about that it has safer and better quality ingredients.
