Want to inject a burst of unparalleled color and dramatic flair into your home? The Croton 'Mammy' Variegated (Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy') is your answer! This show-stopping plant is renowned for its incredibly vibrant, often curly or twisted leaves that display a dazzling kaleidoscope of hues including fiery reds, brilliant oranges, sunny yellows, deep purples, and rich greens. Each leaf is a unique work of art, making 'Mammy' an absolute focal point that instantly enlivens any room. Typically growing to a compact 2-4 feet tall and wide indoors, it's perfect for adding a pop of intense color to a bright corner or as a striking tabletop specimen.
Crotons, including 'Mammy', demand bright, direct to very bright indirect light to maintain their spectacular coloration. Place it in your brightest window, ideally a south or west-facing exposure where it can soak up plenty of light. In insufficient light, the vibrant colors will fade, and the plant may revert to a duller green. Consistent warmth and humidity will also help it thrive.
A vital note for pet owners: Croton 'Mammy' Variegated is toxic to pets if ingested. The plant contains a toxic sap that can cause oral irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea in both cats and dogs. Always position your Croton where it is well out of reach of curious furry friends.
When the time comes to give your 'Mammy' a larger home, always use Watters Potting Soil. This high-quality mix provides the excellent drainage and aeration essential for Crotons. To ensure those stunning colors remain brilliant and to support vigorous growth, especially during the spring and summer, feed your plant with Urban Gardener's Super Growth Elixir or Fertilome's All Purpose Houseplant Food. Prepare for a riot of color that will captivate everyone who sees it!
