This ant plant belongs to the little-known genus Myrmephytum . It differs from the more familiar Myrmecodia in the arrangement and structure of its flowers and inflorescences, and is particularly striking due to its large, blue flowers. This plant originates from near Nabire, in the Indonesian county of Papua Tengah in New Guinea.
Myrmephytum 'longissimum' is a so-called 'nomen nudum', meaning "naked name." This means that while this plant has a botanical name, there is no scientific description of the species. A plant with similar leaves, but without a known caudex or flowers, was recorded as " Myrmedoma longissima " on a herbarium specimen, but the identity of this plant was never definitively established, and it was never described as a species. A revision integrated the genus Myrmedoma into Myrmephytum , resulting in the new combination " Myrmephytum longissimum ." However, this is not a described species! In the revision of the genus by Huxely & Jebb (1991), it is therefore referred to as " Myrmephytum species 1." Since it is now more commonly known as M. longissimum , we offer it under this (naked) name.
The caudex is elongated, with spiny ridges, and in nature the plant usually hangs upside down from large trees in the lowland rainforest. The surface is covered with numerous small holes.
The long, drooping leaves are particularly striking in this species. They grow to about 45 cm long and 3 to 4 cm wide. The flowers are among the most beautiful and largest in the genus. They are blue, about 5 cm across, and only open for a few days. After a short time, elongated, orange fruits develop from the flowers.
Myrmephytum grow surprisingly quickly with proper fertilization. This bizarre, hanging species is a highlight in any larger terrarium or grow tent.

[expand Title=" About Ant Plants "]
Myrmephytum are so-called "ant plants" from the Rubiaceae family. They are widespread from Southeast Asia to Australia and from Papua to the Solomon Islands, and usually grow epiphytically on trees. They belong to the myrmecodomen ant plants, meaning they provide nesting sites for ants. Their thickened stem, also called a "caudex," is riddled with numerous tunnels and chambers inhabited by specialized ants, mostly from the genus Philidris . The ants do not create the chambers or the entrances themselves; these are formed solely by the plant, regardless of whether ants are present or not.
The plant has a mutually beneficial relationship with the ants that live in it. The ants protect the plant and their nest, and fertilize it with leftover food, droppings, and other waste. The plant contains several different types of chambers: some with smooth walls and others with warty walls. The warty chambers, in particular, are specially adapted for absorbing nutrients. The ants use the smooth chambers for nesting and the warty chambers as a waste disposal site, thus supplying the plant with nutrients. In some highly specialized ant-inhabiting plants, the ants even pollinate the flowers and plant the seedlings!
Over many years, the colonies of ants and ant-attracting plants spread across a tree, and other epiphytes associated with ants, such as Hoya , Dischidia , Lecanopteris , and orchids, also join them. A so-called " ant garden " is created.
Not every ant-friendly plant is actually inhabited by ants in nature. In fact, there are numerous species where ants have never been detected! This also means that no ant-friendly plant necessarily needs an ant colony to survive or thrive. All of our cultivated ant-friendly plants are, of course, ant-free! The caudex forms exactly the same way as it does in nature, even without ants.

cliffhanger, no 2nd book in sight
Format: Kindle
The book itself was pretty good. The plot is unique and full of suspense and action, although some of it felt redundant. I particularly enjoyed the realistic growth cycle of the female lead from abuse survivor with low self-esteem to badass warrior.
I never would have read it though if I had known this is not complete, and there is no information available on the next book.

The Book of Cin relies heavily on the progression and growth of our fmc, which I don't hate. It shows us the girl she was and what she allowed and who she then grows into by the end due to all the events that happens within the book. This journey - physically, mentally, and especially emotionally - takes us through her current and past experiences and expresses how one can grow from trauma. Her support group is invaluable, and the new relationships she forms prove to be just as prominent to her and her growth. This is truly a story that thrives on the characters growth throughout the book and sets us up in how to see her for the coming books.
My half star comes from the pacing. Though I *thoroughly* enjoyed the ending and seeing this growth take full effect, I believe that it came with just too many pages. Sitting at about 500, we get intimate and detailed scenes that we could have maybe gone without. Oftentimes, I found myself daydreaming away from the book until something more prominent peaked my interest again. I understand the depth the book goes into to fully establish this character development and the setup that this provides for the rest of the series, but I truly do believe there were scenes that could have been cut out to help with the pacing.
If you're not into slow pacing (and usually I'm not), this book is still worth the read. The ending more than makes up for it, and it is absolutely detrimental to the story that we get the events that occur and see the development take shape in front of our eyes. It makes you fist pump the sky by the end.

All the stars! Emotional! Incredible!
Format: Kindle

This was one of those books I have a hard time reviewing because I struggle to find the words to adequately express how incredible it was! This book deserves every single star! It is heart-wrenching, emotional, and heavy. The depictions of self-worth, guilt, loss, love, and everything in between were done beautifully. There are multiple romances to root for and the development of the plot/world was executed brilliantly. It has an amazing set of characters that will bring out not only all the rage/hate but also sacrifice that will impact your soul! The ending of chapter 19 will live rent free in my mind and is now one of my top favorite moments from any book and why Landers will forever take a top spot in my all-time favorite book boyfriends! The depiction of what true friendship should be is also well represented! Ardan stole my heart as the best side character and if you’ve read this we need to talk (iykyk)!! I absolutely need the next book to see what happens next!!

Epic Adventure with FMC coming into her power
Format: Kindle
Honestly, the author, HM Wolfe had me at the dedication:
“For my readers. For the ones who suffer silently. You will not break.”
About: The Book of Cin takes us on a heart wrenching and inspiring journey of love, betrayal, self discovery and healing where everything Hyacinth thought she knew about the realms - and herself - is turned upside down. As she learns about her own dormant magic, she must also find her courage and make sacrifices to protect her friends as the threat of war hangs over them.
My reactions: Holy smokes, this was amazing! First off, I have to say that the trauma Hyacinth experiences from the emotional and physical abuse of her narcissistic boyfriend hit hard for me. It was written so realistically, and I especially appreciate the author’s accurate betrayal of what this type of trauma does to one's self-esteem and character. Her healing journey and growth throughout the story is paced with perfection, and I found myself cheering Cin on every time she reclaimed a bit of herself and discovered newfound strengths.
The sexual tension and attraction between her and Landers is the kind of slow burn you crave, and it delivers on making you more than ready for the tension to break. “The only time I want to see you on your knees,” he whispered with a low rumble, “is when those beautiful lips are wrapped around me.” How hot 🔥 is that?!
“You are mine.” He said the words not with possession, but in devotion. “You do not belong to me, but I . . . I belong to you.”
If you love epic adventures with found family, a morally grey MMC, magic, and an FMC coming into her own power, this needs to be added to your TBR. Oh, and did I mention, they’re dragons?!?!

Great debut!
Format: Hardcover
“I will decimate anyone who tries to hurt you; anyone who lays a hand on you.”
DV awareness
History erasure
Magic suppression
Found family
Chosen one
Slow burn to spice
I was happy that there’s a heavy exposure to domestic violence awareness and that Cin found the will and courage to acknowledge and get out of the abusive relationship she was in. She is really working toward taking back her voice, her choice and her power. The story covers themes of loss, betrayal and oppression as well as the power of friendship and having people truly see you. And Landers, our mmc, delicious.
