(Opuntia violacea ‘Santa Rita’)
Transform your garden with bold color and effortless beauty. The Santa Rita Prickly Pear is one of the most striking and low-maintenance cacti you can grow. Native to the Sonoran Desert, it’s famous for its purple-tinted pads, bright yellow spring flowers, and exceptional hardiness.
🌟 Standout Features
Beautiful Color 🎨
The Santa Rita’s signature purple pads become richer with increased sun exposure and cooler temperatures, adding dramatic color and texture to your outdoor space.
Hardy & Resilient ❄️
Thrives in USDA zones 7–11 and tolerates cold temperatures better than many prickly pear varieties—perfect for desert gardens and beyond.
Easy to Grow 🌱
This cactus thrives on neglect. Minimal watering, excellent drought tolerance, and adaptability make it ideal for xeriscaping, rock gardens, and low-maintenance landscapes.
Vibrant Blooms & Fruit 🌼
In spring, enjoy bright yellow flowers with reddish centers, followed by edible pear-shaped fruits (tunas) that add seasonal interest and charm.
As sunlight and temperatures change, the pads deepen in color—creating a living, ever-evolving focal point for your landscape, patio, or garden.
