How It Works
Sonar A.S. is a systemic herbicide that inhibits carotene production in target plants, causing them to lose their green color and eventually die. The key to success is maintaining the recommended concentration in contact with target plants for a minimum of 45 days. Apply early in the season, prior to or just after plant growth begins, for best results.
Important Information
This is a restricted-use herbicide and requires applicator certification in most states. Always follow all federal, state, and local regulations. Designed for minimal flow water bodies—consult the label for flow rate limitations. Does not control algae species.
FAQ
Q: How long does Sonar A.S. take to work?
A: You'll typically see initial signs of control within 30-60 days, with complete control taking 60-90 days as the herbicide works throughout the entire plant system.
Q: Why is the 45-day contact period important?
A: Sonar A.S. requires sustained contact with target plants for at least 45 days to be fully absorbed and translocated. This is why early-season application and minimal water flow are critical.
Q: Can I use this in flowing water?
A: Sonar A.S. is designed for water bodies with minimal flow. Significant water flow dilutes the herbicide and prevents the required 45-day contact period.
Q: Which size should I buy?
A: Size selection depends on your water body size and treatment goals. The 8 oz size suits small ponds, while the 1 gallon size is for large lakes or commercial operations.
Q: Will this harm fish?
A: When used according to label directions at proper application rates, Sonar A.S. can be used in waters containing fish. Always follow label restrictions.
Q: Does this control algae?
A: No, Sonar A.S. does not control algae species. It is specifically designed for controlling submersed and emergent aquatic weeds.
Q: Do I need a license to apply this product?
A: Yes, Sonar A.S. is a restricted-use pesticide requiring applicator certification in most states. Check your state and local regulations before purchasing or applying.
Q: When is the best time to apply?
A: Apply early in the season, prior to or just after plant growth begins. This ensures the herbicide has time to work and allows for the critical 45-day contact period.
