These are the mature seed heads of Echinacea purpurea. We harvest them in late summer after the petals have faded but before the birds eat the seeds.
The Texture: They are hard, woody, and prickly to the touch! This makes them one of the most durable dried flowers available—they won't shed or crumble easily.
