How to Grow

'Futura Superba' is as resilient as it is beautiful. Adaptable to a variety of light conditions, from dim corners to brightly lit spaces, this plant is perfect for indoor environments. It thrives in well-draining soil and, thanks to its succulent-like qualities, requires minimal water. While it's happiest in USDA zones 10-12, it's predominantly grown indoors, safe from frost and extreme temperatures.

Care Tips

Water the 'Futura Superba' sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between watering sessions. Over-watering can lead to root rot, so it's best to err on the side of dryness. To keep its foliage vibrant and dust-free, occasionally wipe down the leaves with a damp cloth.

Uses

The 'Futura Superba' is a versatile addition to any space. Its vertical growth and dark, patterned foliage make it a natural focal point, whether placed in living rooms, offices, or bedrooms. Additionally, it's renowned for its air-purifying capabilities, making it as functional as it is decorative.

Planting Tips

When potting, select a container with drainage holes to prevent water stagnation. Utilize a well-draining soil mix, preferably one tailored for cacti or succulents. Ensure the plant's roots are buried, but keep the base of its leaves above the soil to prevent rot.

Maintenance

This variant is low-maintenance. Regularly inspect for damaged or yellowing leaves and trim as needed. If the plant outgrows its container or if offsets appear at its base, consider repotting or dividing to promote healthy growth.

Pests and Diseases

While typically pest-resistant, occasionally inspect for mealybugs, spider mites, or other common houseplant pests. Treat any infestations with insecticidal soaps or neem oil. Maintain proper watering to prevent potential root rot.

Note: While the 'Futura Superba' is a captivating addition to interiors, it's important to note that its leaves can be toxic if ingested. It's recommended to position the plant in areas out of reach of pets and children.

A Poetic Parable of Silence and Resistance
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky's Deaf Republic is a haunting narrative of political turmoil and collective silence, where a community's deafness becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through lyrical verse, Kaminsky weaves a tale of love, loss, and resistance, capturing the profound consequences of political violence on ordinary lives. This collection is a poignant testament to the resilience of the human spirit amidst oppression and serves as a stark reminder of our moral responsibilities in troubled times.

One of the most original and moving books of poems I've ever read
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky is practically a legend, at this point, and deservedly so. This is his second book of poems, and proves well worth the wait. The individual poems are beautiful and strange; together, they comprise a kind of allegory for our times, and manage to be both somehow light-of-heart, somehow luminous, and also seriously profound. I would recommend this book even to those who don't usually read poetry, because it's beyond poetry, truly.

Beautifully written and good quality book
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I received the book earlier than the estimated date. I love this poem collection of Ilya Kaminsky. Although it describes the social unrest in an unknown place (and unfamiliar to me), his poems are beautifully written with strong images and music. THe paper quality and the book are so new and lovely. I couldn't think that it is used (as it stated).

Life: A challenge in many ways in all cultures
Format: Kindle
I heard Ilya Kaminsky read his poems at Chautauqua this past summer. Over powering and dynamic to hear his voice speak his words... about his life experiences need to be remembered. A must read and if possible with the audio.

A brilliant poetic narrative whose lines leap off the pages which turn themselves.
Format: Paperback
When you get to the end, you wonder how Kaminsky worked his wondrous magic, how it's possible to think and write poetry like that. The poem is a story about Vasenka, a mythical town somewhere in the Ukraine, occupied by the Soviet army during an unspecified period of time. It is an allegory of the cruelty of occupation, the futility of the resistance of a few, and the deafness of the silent majority, a deafness that courageously resists the occupation and a deafness that hardens the heart and ignores the evil surrounding them. It could have happened anywhere anytime. The occupiers could have been Nazis, Ottoman Turks, American, English, or Spanish. The poetry is piercingly sharp, visionary, breathless and the metaphors are the likes of which you've never heard before, lines like “the sound we do not hear lifts the gulls off the water,” “Our hearing doesn't weaken, but something silent in us strengthens,” or “In these avenues, deafness is our only barricade.” This is drop-dead beautiful poetry.
