A stunning American heirloom watermelon, recognized by the Slow Food 'Ark of Taste'. Thought to have been extinct, this tasty and stunningly beautiful watermelon made a return to home gardens back in the 1980s.

Known for its sweet flavor and juicy pinkish/red flesh.   This unusually spotted watermelon takes its name from its dark green exterior with splashes of yellow (stars), creating the impression of the Milky Way.

It can grow up to 40 lbs. and produce large oblong fruit.

Introduced by the Henderson Seed Company in 1926.

Seed Profile

  • Organic
  • Heirloom
  • Open-Pollinated
  • Non-GMO
  • Annual
  • Sun: Full
  • Indoors: 4 weeks before last frost
  • Direct Sow: Direct after last frost
  • Seed Count: 25
  • Days to Maturity: 85-100
  • Plant Size: 6'-8' vine
  • Open Pollinated

Growing Tips:

Plant 5-8 seeds in 12" mounds, space 6' apart in all directions. Thin to healthiest. Heavy feeder, add compost and mulch at base. Heat loving fruit! Use trellis, if needed, for support. Place boards under fruit to protect against moister.

If starting seeds indoors, it is key that your new starts be hardened off.  This is a process that requires taking them outside during the day, for a period of time, before they are planted. This acclimates your seedlings to the outside world, meaning the elements like the wind and sun. We do it for several weeks to a month as this strengthens their stems and overall plant structure.

  • Start for a short period of time initially, then graduate to more time each day
  • One week minimum is recommended
  • Bring them inside in the early evening and overnight
  • Keep an eye on them and constantly water them. Make sure they have not blown

    It's fine
    Color: 13-Inch
It has an easy assembly and works as intended. This mower is not for large yards. It will not work for a large yard. If you have a yard larger than 500sqft in total, it will work, but it's not going to get the job done in one shot. Right now, with the grass being long and unruly, it drains both batteries just doing one half of the total yard I have. I'm sure it will last a lot longer when I'm not having to constantly restart from clogging, but the long grass is a challenge for it. It looks decent and it's quieter than a gas. Unfortunately it's a cheap plastic, so it's a little wobbly and struggles to get over bumps. If you're willing to struggle over uneven terrain and cut a bit low in spots, go for it. Otherwise try to mow as flat a surface as possible. Also you can stick a rod to prop open the clipping hatch if you're sick of constantly dumping the thing.

    Exceeded Expectations
    Color: 19-Inch-Orange
I feel like I am about to jinx myself by writing this review after one mow. For background, for the past few years I have been using a Greenworks 21inch deck mower. The batteries were awful on it, it cut awful, it seemed like it would cut out when it sensed I was about to get to the taller bits of grass. It honestly turned me off of buying an electric mower because I felt they were all the same. Que this mower. I read the reviews, figured it was worth a shot and wow I can’t believe I dealt with that Greenworks mower for this long. The LawnMaster mower was easy to put together and there was even juice in the batteries. When I started mowing my front lawn, I was amazed that there was no pieces of grass that it missed, unlike my last mower. The LawnMaster feels very lightweight and I am amble to maneuver it with ease. The size of the deck is perfect since i don’t have a huge yard, and it’s very quiet. So I’m suspiciously optimistic and if it continues to impress me, you better believe I’ll be buying a trimmer from LawnMaster too.

I am pleased with mower. Easy to put together and handle
    Color: 19-Inch-Orange
I have used this mower twice and so far am very pleased. It is light weight and will mow my small front and back yard with leaving 40% left on battery. I did have a scare last time I used because mower stopped on fully charged batteries and I discovered the safety key came loose and was able to put back in and finish. In my opinion the key could fit a bit more snug

    So far, so good!
    Color: 19-Inch-Orange
I received the mower quickly and on time. It was in great shape coming out of the box, and the minor assembly required was easy and well spelled out. I fully charged the batteries before trying out the mower. Setting to deck level 3, I was able to cut my back yard easily and completely which took me about 30-35 minutes. There was still significant charge in the batteries. For a small to medium yard, as in my case cutting the front one week and the back the next, this mower works great!

    Nice, but not heavy duty
    Color: 19-Inch-Orange
Nice and lightweight. Very simple to put together. ok for small yard. Mostly all plastic . Works fine out of the box ,but I don't expect it to last. Small blades. Not good for tough weeds.
