An elegant air plant to have, Filifolia Tillandsia has its origin in Central America, between Mexico to Costa Rica. An absolute showstopper, the plant’s rosette shape is formed by thread-like needle-shaped leaves that spread out like a fountain. It belongs to the Bromeliaceae family, growing to about 15 cm in height and 20 cm in width. From within the green leaves, arrive the inflorescent stick bearing non-tubular white to lilac flowers about 2 cm long. The winter-dormant small-sized epiphyte grows slowly in semi-shaded areas. It demands good airflow and frequent watering.

Growth Rate

The monocarpic Tillandsia filifolia is a slow-growing air plant.

Flowering

The Filifolia air plant can flower anytime throughout the year, but it blooms only once and dies after some time. Like other Tillandsias, the plant has an inflorescent filled with white to lilac bisexual flowers.

Watering and Feeding

Adequate watering is a critical part of Tillandsia filifolia care. Misting or dunking are the two best options. When submerged in water for about thirty minutes, the air plant should be left to completely dry out. Since it has skinny leaves, the plant needs more frequent watering than other Tillandsia species. Twice a week is fine. Once a month, let it soak in water for long hours. Fertilization may also be required once a month during the dormant season and every 15 days in summers.

Soil

This air plant does not require any soil.

Hardiness

It grows well in hardiness zones 9 to 11. This Tillandsia variety is not frost-hardy.

Light

The plant prefers bright, shaded sunlight.

Propagation

Pups at the base of the flowers are the best way for propagation.

The Filifolia Tillandsia is fun to grow or to give to your close family and friends. Glued to wood, rocks, and pebbles, on a windowsill or as a companion to your houseplants, the decor turns ultimate with this small rosette plant.

My Samoyed loved this!
Size: Medium
My dog’s favorite thing. This is his 4th toy and he loves it. The quality is great and it lasts very long. Definitely worth every penny you spend. It keeps my samoyed engaged every morning and every night. There is no choke hazard, so all dogs can use it

Long lasting
Size: Medium
My dogs love these and they last pretty long. I take them away when they get very small so I think they’re pretty safe.

Meant for bigger dogs than mine
Size: Small
I bought this for my 10 month old pup who’s a VERY aggressive chewer. I’m going to say this is made for a large, older (than mine) dog. She tried to chew a couple times but eventually just walked away from it when I offered it to her and she had only made a few scratches in it. If you have that bigger dog that’s an aggressive chewer, it would be a good value for your money and will keep the engagement high for a long time with its heavy duty quality.

Finally… a dog chew that doesn’t become a homemade prison shank
Size: Medium
My dog has a real talent: turning every “tough chew” into a sharp, weaponized shard that could star in an episode of Locked Up: Canine Edition. But THIS chew? Absolute game changer. For the first time ever, I can relax—no splinters, no pointy edges, no fear he’s secretly crafting a shiv under the couch. Just happy, safe chewing that actually lasts longer than five minutes. It’s durable, it’s safe, it keeps him busy, and I no longer feel like I’m living with a furry little inmate planning an escape. Highly recommend if your dog chews like he’s got nothing but time.

Would buy again
Size: Small
Would have given 5 stars, but my dog was able to chew this down pretty quickly, so not the most durable. I do like that this is made with better material than other dog chews, so I would buy again.
