Cream-green Dieffenbachia 'Amy' foliage

With a firm upright cane and broad glossy leaves, Dieffenbachia 'Amy' shows green and cream-to-pale-yellow patterning above a clear vertical stem. The crown builds from the top of the stem, giving the plant a defined upright line in the pot.

New leaves open from the crown, while older lower leaves may naturally age away as the stem develops. A firm cane base, active upper leaves and an evenly moist airy root ball indicate stable growth.

Dieffenbachia 'Amy' plant profile

  • Upright cane-form Dieffenbachia with a defined patterned crown
  • Broad glossy leaves with green and cream-to-yellow patterning
  • Sheathing petioles that clasp the stem as each new leaf develops
  • Tropical indoor aroid for bright filtered or gentle medium light
  • Pale leaf tissue that can mark under harsh sun, dry root pockets or fertiliser salt build-up

Dieffenbachia seguine cane growth

Dieffenbachia seguine is an accepted aroid species from the Caribbean and tropical South America, with stout stems, large alternate leaves and petioles that sheath the cane.

Older names such as Dieffenbachia maculata and Dieffenbachia picta still appear for related dumb cane plants, while much of this cultivated material is now generally placed within Dieffenbachia seguine.

Mature Dieffenbachia can form a spadix and spathe, the typical flowering structure of aroids. Indoors, broad patterned leaves gather around a firm upright cane.

Dieffenbachia 'Amy' care

  • Light: Offer bright indirect light or soft medium light. Use a curtain or distance from the glass where pale tissue faces midday sun.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly once the top layer has dried. Keep moisture even while new leaves are forming and slightly lighter during cooler months.
  • Substrate: Use an airy aroid mix with bark, coir or fine organic material plus pumice or perlite for root oxygen.
  • Drainage: Grow in a pot with drainage holes and clear excess water from decorative outer pots after watering.
  • Temperature: Keep around 18–27 °C. Warm roots keep the cane firm after watering.
  • Humidity: Moderate ambient humidity reduces sticking and dry edges on new leaves. Even substrate moisture matters more than spraying the foliage.
  • Feeding: Use a gentle balanced fertiliser in spring and summer, then flush the substrate occasionally to limit salt build-up.
  • Pot balance: Rotate the plant occasionally so the crown develops evenly around the stem.
  • Repotting: Repot in spring or early summer when roots fill the container. Move up by one pot size and keep the cane base at the same level.
  • Pruning and propagation: Cut away spent leaves cleanly at the petiole base. Stem sections and top cuttings root in warm, humid conditions when each cutting includes a viable node.

Amy leaf and cane checks

  • Brown marks on pale leaf areas: Check for direct sun, heat through glass, dry root pockets or fertiliser salt build-up.
  • Several yellow leaves at once: Inspect the root ball for excess moisture, cold substrate or a sharp light change.
  • Soft cane base: Review drainage, reduce moisture around the stem and inspect the roots.
  • New leaf unfolding unevenly: Check humidity, watering consistency and the emerging leaf sheath.
  • Leaning crown: Rotate the pot and check whether the root ball is secure. A discreet stake steadies a taller cane.

Amy sap and careful handling

Dieffenbachia 'Amy' contains calcium oxalate raphides in the sap, so chewed or swallowed tissue can irritate oral tissue, skin and eyes. Keep the pot in a low-contact position away from pets and children, use gloves for pruning and clean tools after contact with cut tissue.

Amy aroid family and name

Dieffenbachia belongs to Araceae, the aroid family, and the genus honours Joseph Dieffenbach of the Schönbrunn palace gardens in Vienna. Dieffenbachia seguine (Jacq.) Schott is the accepted species behind many dumb cane houseplants with upright canes and patterned leaves.

Dieffenbachia 'Amy' combines upright cane growth with cream-green leaves and crisp margins.

Reliable and Affordable Timekeeping for an Active Lifestyle

I recently purchased the Timex Unisex Ironman Classic 30 34mm Watch, and it has exceeded my expectations in terms of functionality, durability, and style. First and foremost, the watch's design is sleek and unisex, making it suitable for a variety of wrist sizes and both casual and sporty occasions. The 34mm face strikes a perfect balance, providing clear visibility of the time without feeling bulky on the wrist. One of the standout features of this timepiece is its reliability. The Ironman Classic 30 lives up to its name with a water resistance of up to 100 meters, making it suitable for swimming and other water-based activities. The durable resin strap and casing can withstand the wear and tear of an active lifestyle, ensuring longevity. The watch's functionality is where it truly shines. The digital display is easy to read, and the Indiglo backlight is a game-changer in low-light conditions. The 30-lap memory is a handy feature for tracking workouts or laps in the pool, while the countdown timer and alarm add practicality for daily use. Setting and adjusting the time and date are straightforward, thanks to the user-friendly interface. The watch also offers a dual time zone feature, making it a great companion for travelers. Battery life is impressive, providing long-lasting performance without the need for frequent replacements. This is a crucial aspect for those who rely on their timepiece during outdoor adventures or extended periods away from a power source. In terms of value for money, the Timex Ironman Classic 30 delivers outstanding features at an affordable price point. Whether you're an athlete, fitness enthusiast, or someone who simply appreciates a reliable timepiece, this watch is a solid investment. The Best for Athletics
Color: Black/Gray
This is a sleek, light wristwatch that will not weigh you down with its bulk. Forget the gigantic profile of a "survivalist" wristwatch. This unisex model is svelte and slim, not adding much to the wake you generate while swimming, or the swing of your arms while running, or the wind as it passes around your wrists and hands while you are speeding by on your racing bike. This is only 34mm across, by 35mm tall, by 11.5mm thick. The wristband is 13mm at its median working width. Timex styling cannot be beat, and neither is the resin-rubber-like material. I don't know about you, but the price is something I take a good look at. I want a watch that is reasonably priced and high-quality. I don't want to spend $200 to $1000 on a watch and worrying about being careful with it. If it gets smashed, it's only $30 to $50, not a big loss, and the quality is way better than what they were making in the 1980's. These watches are made for athletics and the real world.

Great watch, flimsy band
Color: Gray/Lilac
I bought this watch to replace a similar model because the band broke. I see this is a recurrent problem in many other reviews. However, I liked the watch enough to buy it again anyway. I found the new model easy to set, being fairly intuitive. So far it keeps perfect time. I use this watch mainly as a travel watch, and loved the dual time zone function. I am pleased that the newer model now has the ability to set 3 times zones instead of 2, which is an added bonus. The only con I see at this point is the flimsy strap. Unfortunately, the strap on this model is even thinner than on the previous one, and I wonder how long it will last. Also I wonder about the battery length. I think these watches may have been sitting around a long time. The setting showed 2012. I am afraid much of the battery life of the original battery may have already been used up and the battery may need replacing early. Only time will tell. The watch fits my small wrist fine and it is a little more attractive than the old model. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the band problem.

Fine for a man (with skinny wrists)
Color: Black/Gray, Color: Black/Gray
I have an older mens ironman which has gotten a little beat up and needs replacing. The band is much longer than I need. The metal clasp sits off-center on the underside of my wrist, closer to the part of my wrist which curves around to the front. The too-long strap sometimes flops around and catches on things. I couldn't find a smaller-band mens version, so I tried this "womens" watch (picking the most manly-looking one, of course). I like it better. The band fits my wrist much better, with the metal band in the middle and no flop. I also like that the watch is lighter and the face and band are smaller and less bulky, so it is less noticeable when I'm wearing it (cycling weight weenies will appreciate this). The face is still large enough to be easily legible and contains all of the same great features as my mens ironman watch, plus the newer versions now have an hourly chime, nice! Other info: my wrist is ~17.5cm or ~7.0" around. On this watch, I use the 6th out of 9 slots on the band. On my mens ironman, I use the 3rd out of 9 slots. Weight: this one = 28g, mens = 39g. Pics show comparison of my prior mens ironman with this new "womens" ironman. Photo order is confusing (couldn't figure out how to change that). They are: (1) side-by-side, mens on left, (2) mens band (wider and clasp is off-center on my wrist, end of band hangs over the edge of my wrist -- too long for me -- catches on things), (3) womens band (less wide, clasp is more centered on my wrist and end does hang over edge of my wrist), (3) womens watch (smaller, and looks new), and (5) mens watch, looking a little beat up.
