Mayoi Philodendron (Philodendron mayoi)

Mayoi Philodendron is a bold, tropical houseplant with dramatic split foliage that instantly makes a room feel more alive. It is a great choice when you want the look of a jungle plant but still want an approachable care routine and a plant that can be grown in a container. With bright, indirect light and steady watering after partial dry-down, it grows into a fuller, more impressive specimen over time. If you want a statement philodendron with strong texture and movement, Mayoi Philodendron is a standout.

Distinctive Features

This philodendron is prized for its large, deeply divided leaves, with long finger-like lobes that create an airy, sculptural silhouette. The foliage typically grows on longer petioles that allow the leaves to fan outward, adding movement and a layered look in indoor displays. It is often grown as a self-heading to semi-climbing plant, and a support can help guide growth and keep the plant looking tidy as it matures. The combination of bold leaf division and lush green color gives it high visual impact without relying on flowers.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Bright, indirect light is ideal, and it tolerates medium light with slower growth.
  • Soil: Airy, well-drained aroid mix that holds some moisture but never stays soggy.
  • Water: Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil dry, and do not let the pot sit in water.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity supports best leaf size and condition, with average home humidity acceptable.
  • Growth Habit: Upright to spreading plant with long petioles and deeply divided leaves, benefiting from space and optional support.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a statement plant where the split leaves can create instant tropical impact.
  • Bright Room Corner: Place in a bright corner to add lush texture and a layered, jungle look.
  • Plant Stands: Set on a low stand so the leaf shape and movement can be appreciated at eye level.
  • Collector Displays: Pair with other aroids for a varied mix of leaf shapes, finishes, and structure.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Keep evenly moist but not wet, allowing a partial dry-down between waterings.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at a moderate strength.
  • Staking: Provide a stake or support if needed to guide growth and keep the plant from sprawling.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep the foliage looking fresh.

Why Choose Mayoi Philodendron?

  • Dramatic Leaf Division: Fingered foliage creates bold texture and a true tropical silhouette.
  • High Decor Impact: One plant can transform a space with movement, scale, and lush green color.
  • Approachable Care: Thrives with bright, indirect light and a steady watering routine.
  • Great Aroid Addition: Adds variety and structure to indoor plant collections and groupings.

Mayoi Philodendron is a great choice when you want a statement plant with strong texture and a lush, tropical feel. Give it bright, indirect light, an airy mix, and watering after partial dry-down, and it will grow steadily and stay impressive. With a little space and consistent care, it becomes a lasting focal plant that brings indoor jungle energy to your home.

Deceptive Advertising
There's a little bit of false advertising going on here unless you thoroughly read the description. There are three balls in the picture, but you are only purchasing two. Always read the whole description before buying!

Not the same rubber.
I just received these today. I already have two of the same size direct from the local pet store. The one thing I liked about them that made me want to buy more - my 13lb dog could chew on them all night and never leave a mark. The red one I received was as expected. The blue one I received was not made out of the same rubber. It was softer. We played catch a few times and it didn’t bounce the same. I looked away for 5 minutes and she had it already starting to shred. Not sure what happened but 1 of the 2 balls I was sent was not up to par, possibly defective.

Great
Size: Medium, Number of Items: 1
I need something that was soft for my three year old and this ball is super great, it not only is the right size but it also fits in his mouth just right. Although he is a super aggressive chewer, the ball toy hasn't been totally destroyed yet and it is easy on his gums. The ball is so durable that got two of these toys just for fun.

The best!
UPDATE: 08/05/2025 - This is still one of my dog's 2 fav training/play toys. A couple of notes: 1. This is not a chew toy. If your pup is chewing up the rope, that's on you. That being said, you can get 100' of the poly cord rope at Home Depot for like $4.98. You can make nearly 100 ropes out of 100'. How hard is it to replace the rope????? 2. My pup is a now 15 month old Malinois. His original balls, purchase in September 2024 are still in everyday, multiple times per day, play. I did get careless and leave one where he got it and chew the rope. Easily replaced. Nothing to fret over. Yes, that was on me! 3.The foam ball is virtually indestructible! Replace the rope! 4. I noticed the price for the yellow large went from $12 each to $24. THIS will cause me to go elsewhere if they doubled in price. I LOVE these balls but not that much. I noticed they have a new yellow ball that has a strap vs. a rope. I might try that if I need one, but I have 6 of these balls, 2 never used yet, 2 that are virtually new looking, and 2 that have been in play since september 2024. I don't think I'll be buying more any time soon, but if I do need more, I hope they haven't gone up to $24 each. One of my top, go-to training tools. Quality is great other than the shrink wrap around the string joint. It's junk but not essential. Great tug and fetch toy. Essential to teaching a good "out" command (2 are recommended for this).
