Silene armeria, also known as Sweet William Catchfly, is a charming and distinctive plant with unique characteristics. This perennial herb is characterized by its slender, lance-shaped leaves and clusters of bright magenta or pink flowers, which bloom atop wiry stems. The flowers have a delightful, sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies, making them a popular choice for gardens. Silene armeria typically grows to a height of 12 to 24 inches and forms a clumping, bushy habit. It is known for its ability to self-sow and naturalize in the garden, creating a profusion of blooms over time. This plant is both ornamental and easy to care for, making it a favorite for gardeners and a colorful addition to cottage gardens, borders, and wildflower meadows. Its vibrant appearance and pollinator-friendly nature add to its overall appeal, making it a sought-after choice for those looking to attract and support local wildlife.  Zones 5-8

Germination

Germinating Silene armeria seeds can be a straightforward process. Scarify them to help break their dormancy. You can do this by gently scratching the seed coat with sandpaper or making a small nick in the seed coat with a knife. After scarification, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix or garden soil. Sow the seeds about 1/4 inch deep and cover them with soil. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination process. Place the planting container or garden in a sunny location as Silene armeria thrives in full sunlight. Germination typically takes about two to three weeks, and once the seedlings are robust enough, they can be transplanted into their permanent location, where they will grow into beautiful, flowering plants.

Lightweight but questionable coverage
I traditionally used the Coola face lotion but had switched to the spray for my body so I figured I’d try the face spray. It doesn’t smell as bad as a lot of the reviews say it does. It also doesn’t really smell “tropical” for that matter, but it isn’t unpleasant. It sprays evenly and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. My only complaint is I still got a little burnt. Full disclosure: I’m super fair and have to reapply every 30-60 minutes, even without getting wet. So maybe it’s not meant for people with as pale a complexion as me. Or I have to constantly reapply, or put the lotion underneath. But otherwise I really liked it and really like Coola products.

Must have for a hot summer!
My mom saw my aunt using it and was impressed, so she bought it for herself and my sister-in-law. They both love how gentle it feels on the skin and that it’s organic and effective.

Too smelly
I love the idea of a clear spray sunscreen but my daughter says it stings her eyes and the smell gives me an instant headache. I really wanna like this but it’s a no go for me

Great for sensitive skin
This was great to take on vacation. I went to Cancun and used this on my face. Never got burned. I have super sensitive skin and this didn’t cause any reactions. I’m also sensitive to smells and I don’t notice anything with this product. Will purchase again.

Buyer beware!
Awful! I sprayed my face with it and immediately felt my skin burning. I opened the bottle and noticed all that was in it was a yellowish fluid that smelled like straight rubbing alcohol. My face still has marks on it days later from whatever the substance was. I have used this brand before, and never experienced anything like this. The product was either years past expiration, or liquid was replaced with some kind of chemical.
