Sansevieria ‘Coppertone’ is a rare and unusual cultivar of the snake plant family, admired for its bronze to copper-toned foliage that sets it apart from the more common green and yellow varieties. Native to Africa and Asia, Sansevierias are famed for their drought tolerance and architectural leaves – but ‘Coppertone’ brings a unique metallic warmth to interiors.

The leaves are upright, narrow, and slightly arching, with a leathery texture and smooth finish. Their colour ranges from deep green through bronze to coppery-brown, depending on light exposure. This striking palette gives the plant a sculptural, almost ornamental-metal look, making it particularly popular with collectors and lovers of unusual succulents.

Compact and slow-growing, Sansevieria ‘Coppertone’ typically reaches 30–50 cm in height, forming tidy clumps over time. Its subtle metallic hues add sophistication to modern homes and office spaces.

Sansevieria ‘Coppertone’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which enhances its copper tones. Tolerates medium and low-light environments, though foliage colour may deepen to greener shades. Avoid strong midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Extremely drought tolerant. Water sparingly, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings. In summer, watering every 2–3 weeks is sufficient; in winter, reduce to once a month or less. Overwatering is the most common issue.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Best in 18–28°C. Protect from prolonged exposure below 10°C.

  • Humidity: Naturally suited to dry air – thrives in centrally heated homes.

Soil and Potting

Plant in a gritty, well-draining cactus or succulent compost. Heavy pots are recommended to balance its upright leaves. Repot every 2–3 years in spring as clumps expand.

Feeding

Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser once a month during spring and summer. Stop feeding in autumn and winter.

Pruning and Maintenance

Remove old or damaged leaves at the base. Wipe foliage gently with a damp cloth to highlight its copper tones.

Growth and Maturity

A slow grower, reaching 30–50 cm tall. Produces offsets (pups) from its rhizomes over time, creating attractive clumps. Mature plants may occasionally produce flower spikes with clusters of small, fragrant, creamy-white blooms.

Common Issues

  • Mushy or yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Wrinkled foliage: Prolonged underwatering – revive with a thorough soak.

  • Pests: Rare, but mealybugs and spider mites can appear in dry conditions.

Background and Benefits

Snake plants are among the toughest houseplants, recommended for both beginners and collectors. The ‘Coppertone’ cultivar is especially prized for its unusual bronzed foliage, giving it an exotic, contemporary edge. Like all Sansevierias, it also has air-purifying qualities, removing toxins from the air while releasing oxygen at night.

Great for blankets
Great for making sherpa or fur blankets soft again after wash. I imagine it'll work well for fur hoods as well. It did a good job of removing lose hair fibers and the quality is good, even if it's extra spikey. Overall, affordable solution and good looking brush to rejuvenate faux fur

Great but Pain
It’s alright, does the job as it is supposed to. It’s easy to use and helped fix my Uniqlo jacket that was all matted. It didn't restore it to it's original form however it did unmat it. If I bought this way before and touched up the jacket, I think it would of been perfect to this day still. Maintenance of those jackets are a must! The brush is strong and works well for fluffing it up because of the metal wiring. The only bad parts are that it can hurt if you accidentally poke or scratch yourself, I actually got cut by it when I quickly was brushing. It’s kind of hard to get the lint off the brush but it's better than others and might hurt because of the metal. But overall, it’s a cool tool that makes my jacket fluff again!

Works well, however…
Purchased this to give life back to my Sherpa backed blankets. This is a well made brush handle is comfortable. The teeth are strong and durable. They did not bend around while I used it and maintained its shape. The problem I guess I’m seeing is that it doesn’t get deep down into the fabric to it’s just a surface “petting”. Maybe if the teeth were further apart or something. But does seem to provide some form of fluff.

Very useful
Works great on polar fleece. I also use it gently on. My jeans to get rid of dig hair. Speaking of dog hair, I have been known to run this gently over the dog's coat.works great for that too.
