Anthurium queremalense is a rare species from the Araceae family, discovered in 1986 by the renowned botanist Dr. Tom Croat in the cloud forests of Queremal, Colombia. This remarkable species is distinguished by its large, elongated, and velvety leaves, which, when mature, can exceed 1.2 meters (4ft) in length, offering a lush and imposing appearance.

Native to mountainous regions, Anthurium queremalense is adapted to an environment with high humidity and moderate temperatures, reflecting the unique conditions of its natural habitat. In the wild, it grows predominantly as an epiphyte, clinging to trees in the cloud forests of the Andean slopes, where biodiversity is impressive.

Botanical characteristics

Leaves: Elongated, heart-shaped, with a velvety surface and dense texture; prominent veins, giving a sculptural effect.

Stem: Short compared to the foliage, capable of producing aerial roots for anchoring and efficient moisture absorption.

Inflorescence: Thin, cylindrical spadix, accompanied by an elegant spathe, greenish-yellow in color.

Flowers: Small, closely arranged on the spadix, pollinated by specialized insects from its native ecosystem.

Fruits: Red or orange berries at maturity, containing viable seeds.

Care instructions

To maintain the health and beauty of this rare species, it is essential to closely replicate the conditions of its natural habitat:

🌿 Light: Preferably strong indirect light or partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage the leaves.

🌡️ Temperature: Grows best between 16-24°C. Does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C, being sensitive to cold.

💦 Humidity: Requires a high level of humidity (above 50%, ideally around 70%). Regular misting of the leaves and the use of a humidifier or terrarium for controlled climate are recommended.

💧 Watering: Keep the substrate lightly moist but well drained. Water when the top layer of soil dries slightly.

🌱 Substrate: Aerated, well-drained mix, ideal for epiphytes: pine bark, peat, perlite, and sphagnum moss, similar to that used for orchids.

🌿 Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer (NPK 20-20-20) monthly during the active growth period (spring-summer).

🪴 Repotting: Recommended every 2-3 years, into a larger pot with fresh substrate to ensure healthy root development.

Note: Sensitive foliage - specimens may show defects/scars on leaves. This aspect is considered normal.

Height including pot: approx. 30 cm

Decorative pot is not included in the price.

KONG; consistently sturdy!
Color: bone, Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
This toy is small enough for my 11 pound puppy and he loves it. It's also sturdy enough (as KONG products always are) to withstand his terrier jaws and ability to destroy most toys in under 5 minutes. Keeps him busy for hours.
