Mara des Bois, developed by a French breeding program, is an everbearing strawberry variety known for producing small to medium-sized berries with exceptional flavor and fragrance—the best among everbearers. The berries feature an attractive red color with a glossy finish.
When planted in spring, Mara des Bois yields fruit from summer through fall, with an additional crop the following spring. This variety is ideal for hanging baskets or containers, making it a favorite for home gardeners. Although it is considered a lower-yielding specialty variety, its superior fruit quality creates strong demand in commercial markets focused on taste and aroma.
Features:
Consistent Production: Planted in spring, Mara des Bois fruits in summer and fall, with a good spring crop the next year.
Exceptional Flavor: Produces small to medium berries with unmatched flavor and fragrance among everbearing varieties.
Specialty Variety: While lower-yielding, it’s prized for its quality in both home gardens and commercial operations.
Recommended Hardiness Zones:
Best suited for Zones 4–7.
Characteristics:
Berry Size: Small
Firmness: Moderate
Optimal Soil pH: 6.5–6.8
Ships As: Bare root
