Creeping thyme ground cover is a beautiful, fragrant little plant that is a common sight on the rocky coasts and plains of the Mediterranean region. From a tiny clump of little seedlings comes a spreading mat of scented foliage covered with flowers. Plant Creeping Thyme seeds for excellent coverage and easy use in rock gardens.

T. serpyllum is a mat forming herb that grows to maximum heights of 6" and blooms May to August. Grow in full sun, in well drained soil, with moderate to low water. Use in rock or herb gardens, as an edging along paths or as a ground cover. Creeping Thyme is a slow growing at first, but will soon establish itself as a beautiful ground cover that requires little to no work.

Kipling waxed poetic on its scent on the summer breeze, saying it was "like the dawn of paradise." Though it can be used as a flavoring or herb, creeping thyme ground cover is not the true culinary thyme but rather an undomesticated cousin. In the language of flowers, thyme signifies activity and courage.

~ germination & planting ~

If you want to get a jump start on the Creeping Thyme ground cover plants, sow the seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost. Easy to grow from seed though germination is slow taking from 14 to 28 days. Seeding best started indoors in a flat where temperature can be kept around 70°. Sow thyme seed in sterilized growing medium either in shallow rows or scatter on top with little or no covering. After they take root, have been transplanted to 2- 1/4" peat pots and reach a height of 2-3 inches, they may be moved outside to cooler weather. For small gardens, space plants about 9 inches apart, for field production space plants 12-18 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart.

Plant Creeping Thyme seeds directly outdoors after frost danger has passed. Prepare a seed bed, loosening the soil and weeding it. Scatter the Creeping Thyme ground cover seeds and press the seeds firmly into the soil. Keep the seeds consistently moist.

Thyme prefers a sandy, dry soil. Avoid planting in heavy, wet soils. Nutrient requirements for Thyme are not heavy, so soil should only receive a moderate amount of fertilizer. (Important to control weeds as they compete for nutrients with the slow-developing young thyme plants.)

~ harvesting ~

Harvest thyme just before the flowers begin to open, by cutting the plant one and a half to 2 inches from the ground. A second growth will develop but this should not be cut at all. This would reduce the plant’s winter hardiness. Although a hardy perennial, thyme plants need care over the winter months to survive the cold.

After harvesting, lay the cut plants on sheets of newspaper or fine screen and allow them to dry in the warm shade. When dry, the leaves will separate from the woody stems easily if rubbed lightly.

Every spring cut thyme plants back to half its previous height to retain the tender stems and bushy habit.

SEEMS TO WORK WELL... IF YOU CAN GET IT INTO THE TIRE
Size: 10oz, Size: 10oz
The front 11x6 tires of our Scag ZTR mower leaked air around the bead (a common problem). I bought one 10-oz bag to treat them, for about $22. No matter how much I squeezed and squeezed, it would not dispense product. Turns out a small plug of "something" had clogged the hole in the cap (see photo). This might not be a problem for the syringe version but it sure was with the bag. After discarding about an ounce of product and clearing the hole with a finishing nail, I was able to treat both tires. I drove the mower for ~15 minutes. Four days later they seem to be holding air. Previously, they went flat in two days. So it seems to be working, but I have to drop a star for a flawed delivery system. If the tires start going flat again within an unreasonable period of time I'll come back and update this report.

Fan For Life!
Size: Gallon
I would not expect this to seal sidewall penetration or save an old tire from dry rot, but when it comes to road surface tire penetration there is absolutely no better or faster way to repair a flat. 1. You don’t have to remove the tire from the vehicle. Losing half a day waiting for a fixed flat tire is at an end! 2. While a bit pricey, it comes out to be a bit cheaper than a shop trip for smaller UTV or mower tires and A LOT cheaper for larger truck and tractor tires. In 2024, we spent over $350 on flats. 3. We have spiny honey locust trees and bushes invading our farm and deal with flats at least once a month, usually more often than that when clearing fence lines and trees or maintaining pastures. Not to mention the aggravating repeated flats on the same tire are gone. 4. The injector is a bit messy, but the residue will wash off in water if it is cleaned before it dries. 5. So far of the six treated tires on various machines, we’ve had no repeat flats or leaks. 6. Red valve covers come with the packaging so it’s easy to see whether a tire has been treated. 7. This works on tubes and no tubed tires. 8. I’ve used this on my truck, SUV, riding mower, UTV, tractor front tires, and backhoe front tires. Works as promised every time. If the manufacturer is reading this review, I would appreciate a simpler dosing and injection system - especially on the gallon jug. I’m thinking of something like the pump on a lotion bottle where one pump equals one ounce for example. And provide more than one injector hose. Attach a string or other keeper on the valve removal tool. Losing this tiny tool would make the whole system inoperative. Overall, I’m a lifetime fan.

Works Awesome
Size: 40oz
Product works great. I have it in my lawn mower tires. I have a property that we cleared of 100's of mesquite trees and I have been getting flats everytime I mowed. I added this to the tires and have now mowed 6 times with no flats. Keep in mind it does not work on tires with tubes but works perfect for tubeless tires. I have ordered 2 more kits for my 4 wheelers.

Awesome stuff, used it on some very dry rotted law mower tires just to see what it would do. Worked great holding air again
