Summary: With its rich, burgundy-hued leaves and occasional pink variegation, the 'Burgundy Princess' brings a royal flair to any indoor space. This striking philodendron is perfect for adding depth and drama to your plant collection.
✨ Why You'll Love It
- Deep burgundy leaves with potential pink variegation make each plant unique.
- Compact growth habit ideal for European apartments and indoor spaces.
- Low-maintenance, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned plant enthusiasts.
- Adds a touch of elegance and color contrast to your indoor jungle.
🌞 Light & Placement
Place in bright, indirect light to maintain vibrant foliage. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, optimal coloration is achieved with ample indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sun to prevent leaf scorch.
💧 Water & Humidity
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure proper drainage. Prefers humidity levels between 50–70%; consider using a humidifier or pebble tray in drier environments.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Thrives in well-draining, organic-rich soil. A mix of potting soil with perlite or orchid bark enhances aeration and prevents waterlogging. Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Not pet-safe. Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can be harmful if ingested by pets or humans. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
A self-heading philodendron with an upright growth habit. Propagate through stem cuttings with at least one node; root in water or moist soil. Use rooting hormone to enhance success rates.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter. Maintain temperatures between 18°C to 27°C for optimal growth.
🐛 Common Issues
Watch for pests like spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Regularly inspect leaves and treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering; adjust watering practices accordingly.
🧬 Botanical Background
Philodendron erubescens is native to the tropical rainforests of South America. The 'Burgundy Princess' is a cultivated variety known for its deep burgundy foliage and occasional pink variegation, making it a prized specimen among plant collectors.
