Introducing the string of hearts, known as Ceropegia woodii, which is a charming trailing succulent that belongs to the CeropegiaGo to search-results-page?q=ceropegia genus. The string of hearts plant has several other common names such as sweetheart vine, rosary vine, line of hearts, and chain of hearts. These names reflect the unique appearance of its leaves and growth habit.

Native to South Africa, the string of hearts plant can be found in the drier regions of the country. It's well-adapted to survive in arid conditions, making it a great choice for those who may forget to water their plants from time to time.

The name "string of hearts" comes from the shape and arrangement of its leaves.

This chain of heart plants features heart-shaped, fleshy, gray-green foliage with a striking marbled pattern and thin, string-like vines with a distinctive purple shade, which can be enhanced by periodic pruning.

The string of hearts plant is easy to care for, especially during warmer months, and can grow up to 12 feet long, making it a lovely addition to hanging baskets or trailing over shelves.

However, it goes dormant in cooler weather, slowing its growth.

The string of hearts flowers are small and tubular, with shades of pink and purple. They have an interesting mechanism to attract pollinators - small hairs inside the flower trap insects, which then have to crawl out through a small opening, ensuring they carry pollen with them.

For string of hearts propagation, you can propagate it through stem cuttings by snipping off a healthy stem and placing it in well-draining soil. The cuttings root easily and can develop into new plants within a few weeks. It's a fun and rewarding way to expand your collection or share the plant with friends.

Although the string of hearts is most commonly grown as a houseplant, it can also be grown as a sprawling ground cover, in rock gardens, or tumbling down walls in warm Mediterranean climates.

Additionally, its variegated variety, which is known as a variegated string of hearts is a unique plant with leaves in cream or white, alongside the usual silver-green color. This plant adds visual interest to any space and is highly sought after by plant enthusiasts.

Watering Needs

When it comes to watering your string of hearts plant, it's important to find the right balance. You don't want to overwater or underwater your chain of heart plant. When watering, give it a thorough soak, allowing the water to flow through the drainage holes. Then, let the top inch or so of the soil dry out before watering again. It's better to underwater than overwater, as the plant is more tolerant of dry conditions.

In the spring and summer, during the growing season, the string of hearts plant may need more frequent watering. As the weather cools down in fall and winter, you can reduce the watering frequency. Remember, it's always best to check the soil moisture level before watering to avoid overdoing it.

Additionally, keep an eye on the leaves. If they start to look wrinkled or droopy, it's a sign that the plant is thirsty. On the other hand, if the leaves turn yellow or feel mushy, it may be a sign of overwatering. Adjust your watering routine accordingly.

Light Requirements

When growing indoors, the string of hearts plant prefers bright, indirect light. It thrives in a spot with plenty of bright, filtered sunlight. You can place it near a north or east-facing window where it can receive gentle morning or afternoon sunlight. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight as it can scorch the delicate leaves.

If you don't have a well-lit spot indoors, you can also grow a string of hearts under fluorescent lights. Position the lights about 6-12 inches above the plant and keep them on for about 12-14 hours a day.

If you are growing them outdoors, your string of hearts can handle some direct sunlight, especially during the morning or late afternoon. However, it's still best to provide it with some shade during the hottest parts of the day to prevent leaf burn. A partially shaded area with dappled sunlight is ideal. You can place it on a patio, balcony, or in a garden where it can receive bright, indirect light. Just make sure to protect it from strong winds and extreme temperatures.

Remember, the string of hearts is a versatile plant that can adapt to different light conditions, but it generally prefers bright, indirect light. Keep an eye on your plant's leaves—if they start to look pale or bleached, they may be getting too much light, and if they become dark green, they may need more light.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The string of hearts plant prefers sandy, well-drained soil, as excess moisture can promote root and stem rot. Planet Desert specializes in succulents and has specialized succulent potting soil that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your succulents thrive. As an okay alternative, you can create your own potting mix by combining equal portions of perlite, coarse sand, and good natural potting soil.

When it comes to fertilizing your string of hearts, it doesn't require a lot of nutrients. During the growing season, typically spring, you can feed it with a balanced (5-10-5), water-soluble NPK fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength. Apply the fertilizer once a year to provide a gentle boost of nutrients. However, during the dormant period in fall and winter, you can reduce or even stop fertilizing altogether. The string of hearts doesn't require as much energy during this time, so it's best to let it rest.

Remember, it's important not to over-fertilize your Ceropegia woodii, as this can lead to salt buildup in the soil, which can be harmful. Always follow the instructions on the fertilizer packaging and err on the side of caution.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors, the string of hearts plant thrives in average room temperatures ranging from 60°F to 75°F. It's important to keep it away from drafts and extreme temperature fluctuations. The string of hearts plant prefers moderate humidity levels, but it can tolerate lower humidity as well. You can provide a slightly more humid environment by misting the leaves occasionally or placing a tray with water near the plant. However, it's not a high-maintenance plant when it comes to humidity.

For outdoor cultivation, your Ceropegia woodii string of hearts plant is generally suited for USDA zones 10 to 12, which are characterized by mild to warm climates. These zones typically have minimum average temperatures ranging from 30°F to 60°F.

If you live in a colder climate, you can still enjoy the string of hearts as an outdoor plant during the warm summer months. However, it's important to bring it indoors or provide protection when temperatures drop below its tolerance level.

It's native to South Africa and can tolerate drier conditions. With its tubular flowers and easy propagation, it's a popular choice for plant lovers. Worked well, comfortable.
Style: Bundle, Size: 2 Piece Set
These patches adhere fairly well to my chin, over a very large cystic pimple. I admit, the microneedle patches I used before caving and picking were the Kill brand, not Rael. I figured I would buy both on the off chance I ised all the Kill stickers (whose price tag is honestly ridiculous). After the zit popped though, I found this brand to be preferrable to my usual HERO staple for a number of reasons: 1) While the hero patches are bigger and thicker, this brand was more comfortable to wear long term. As I was treating during my work day, I felt more confident with these thin, flexible sheets than with other brands. They're thinner, but seem to work just as well and are more comfortable. 2) They're practically invisible on my face. Now, it's not really possible to make these things disappear entirely. Because they're thinner, they do wrinkle some when I speak and tend to stretch on the skin. I will say that this recurring zit does live on my chin, so there may be more movement and wear as a result. 3) I feel less inclined to change them early. Because they wear so well, this brand was much less noticable on my face. I couldn't feel it and in fact, forgot it was there until I took a bathroom break. That made it easier to focus on getting work done rather than worrying about how it felt or looked. I did wear a tiny bit of concealer over these and no one seemed to notice. Overall, pretty good product.

Magic Spots make your acne..DISAPPEAR!
Style: Bundle, Size: 2 Piece Set
I like this product. I was nervous cause I am allergic to everything. However I got an ingrown pimple right under my nose. It hurt like a mother. So I bought these in hopes it would eat it off my face and I was pleasantly surprised. I put the one that has the crystals under my nose overnight. This morning it ate all the sebum around it and left a weak white head. When I removed the white head, I had a pretty decent hole under my nose. I put a dot from the pink box on it after disinfecting it and drying it off in hopes it will keep it protected while I wear a mask at work. I also had one in pink box on the side of my face in hopes of helping a ragged acne that I had scratched of the scab in my sleep the night before. So it was pretty rough skin. I slapped the dot from the pink box over night as well and my skin is soft. Its still a little red from where it was but its not raised and it doesn't hurt. These are pretty awesome. The adhesion sticks all night did not move ONCE. It was almost like removing a bandaid. They stretch well and fit over most acne spots and they are thick enough to not tear easy and hold all the gross that comes out of your face. I had no real expectations of the product because I wasn't sure how this face magic worked but it definitely does the trick when you have painful ingrown and just stubborn acne spots.

They work, but not really worth it
Style: Bundle, Size: 2 Piece Set
Off the bat, they work pretty well. It’s not a miracle and they do work but I’d look for something else before buying these again. The micro needle ones did help deeper acne but they break way too easily to justify buying. The packaging sucks and is confusing. The micro needle dots are two parts that work awfully together. I broke 2 of the 9 just trying to get them off the package. The miracle dots are slightly better but if you get it stuck to your finger trying to get it off, that dot’s a wash. The adhesive is good in some places and not so good at the edges. A few stayed on well and those that did were nicely transparent. These are not invisible but I’d run out with one on and I have darker skin. I took them off and noticed that fluid had been drawn out and overall, things were flatter and more calm. However, the amount of these things I threw away due to the awful packaging and just not adhering, I’d have to be at a last ditch effort to buy these again.

They really do work, although it's a little hard to peel them off the backing.
Style: Bundle, Size: 2 Piece Set
I bought this combo pack because I had one of those deep cysts on my chin that I knew wasn't coming out anytime soon. I already knew the hydrocolloid patches for whiteheads would work, because hydrocolloid bandages work just fine for drawing things out of zits that have come to a head. I was more reluctant about the deep patches, with the microneedles, because it just seemed like nonsense that couldn't possibly work. They DO work! I put one on that deep cyst and when I woke up, it was 75% smaller than it had been when I went to bed. I couldn't believe it. I was so impressed that I actually said so out loud, to myself, alone, in my bathroom. Normally, that thing would've stuck around for weeks, getting angrier and redder but never coming to a head. I used one again the next night, and in the morning, it was pretty much gone, and it never came back. I highly recommend these. One issue I have with them is that peeling them off the backing it a bit of a delicate process. You have to be careful not to fold the edge over onto itself, which is easy to do because they're so small and thin. You also have to make sure to place them in the exact right place the first time. But despite these problems, I still gave them 5 stars because they work so well, so there's that.

Worked like a charm
Style: Bundle, Size: 2 Piece Set
I’ve tried other acne patches before and they’ve always pulled excess oil out of my pores, which ended up drying, scarring, and leaving behind a dry patch when compared to the rest of my face. These effects were especially bad for my cystic acne, which always ended up more inflamed and painful after treatment. The Rael hydrocolloid patches gently pulled out all of the sebum from several pimples that I’d avoided picking at; with other brands, the patches only pulled anything out from pimples that had already been picked at/burst. The micro needle patch also relieved my cystic acne overnight. The pimple is no longer inflamed or painful. When I took the patch off, I could see the liquid and oils that it had pulled out BUT didn’t experience the scarring I have with other patches. Other reviews mention that the patches are fragile, but I don’t necessarily think that’s any different from the other brands I’ve tried. I had no problem trying to get one out of the package on the first try. Overall, I think these are a really good fit for folks with oily skin who experience scarring with other patches. These definitely pull more sebum and not as much oil, so you should see your pimples decrease in size without adding to the inflammation. The patches adhere well and stayed on all night without peeling off (even though I’d accidentally bunched up some edges on the hydrocolloid patches when applying). I’m definitely going to keep a stock of both types readily available!
