The Sempervivum ‘Chick Charms Trio’ is a vibrant, low-maintenance succulent collection that includes three different Sempervivum, opens in a new tab varieties, each selected for their bold colors, unique textures, and seasonal interest. Each trio is hand-picked from a rotating assortment of Chick Charms cultivars, offering you a surprise mix of shapes and hues that shift with the seasons. Whether you’re new to succulents or a collector looking to diversify your arrangement, this trio makes a beautiful and hardy addition to any space.

Each Sempervivum plant in the trio showcases the signature rosette form that Sempervivums are known for—tight spirals of fleshy leaves that come in a range of colors like lime green, burgundy, rose, silvery blue, or even bi-color blends. These plants are cold-hardy, drought-tolerant, and deer-resistant, making them well-suited for both outdoor rock gardens and indoor containers. Depending on the variety included, your plants may change color throughout the year, adding dynamic beauty even in the cooler months.

Sempervivums are often called “Hens and Chicks” due to their clumping growth habit. Each “hen” produces baby “chicks” that cluster around the base, creating a lush carpet of rosettes over time. Most varieties included in the Chick Charms line remain compact, growing 5 inches tall and 6 inches wide, but their offsets can fill out larger containers or garden spaces quickly, especially in sunny spots.

How to Care for Sempervivum Chick Charms, opens in a new tab

  1. Soil: The Sempervivum plants thrive in well-draining succulent soil.
  2. Water: They require infrequent watering—let the soil dry out completely between waterings to prevent rot.
  3. Fertilizer: No fertilizer is necessary, but a light feeding in spring can encourage vibrant growth.
  4. Pruning: Dead leaves at the base can be gently removed to keep the rosettes tidy.
  5. Outdoor temperature & light: Plant them in full sun to partial shade to get the richest coloration. Sempervivums are extremely cold-hardy and do well outdoors year-round in USDA Zones 3–9.
  6. Indoor temperature & light: They prefer bright light, ideally placed near a sunny window or under grow lights. Provide at least 4–6 hours of direct or bright light daily. These plants are resilient to temperature swings and can tolerate frost and snow, going dormant in colder months and bouncing back in spring.

According to ASPCA, the Sempervivums are non-toxic to pets and humans, making them a safe choice for households with curious animals. The beauty of the Chick Charms Trio is that no two sets are exactly the same, allowing you to build a colorful, ever-changing succulent garden with ease. Their clumping habit also makes them perfect for gifting—simply divide a few chicks and share them with friends!

Final Thoughts

Overall, whether planted in containers, tucked into a rock wall, or displayed as a living centerpiece, the Sempervivum ‘Chick Charms Trio’ offers color, charm, and easy care in one beautiful package. Their mix-and-match nature means every trio is a unique surprise, and over time, your trio can grow into a vibrant colony of hardy hens and chicks. Ideal for beginner gardeners and succulent lovers alike, this trio adds instant texture and long-lasting interest to any collection.

Step by Step
Format: Kindle
This series of books has step by step instructions that are easy to follow. There are lots of pictures to verify you are doing things correctly. I have done three books in this series so far (Foundations, Beginner, and Platform). Before starting the books, I had some coding background, but no experience with Unity. Each book covers a manageable amount of information. There is so much to learn, but the author does well to stick to key points to not make the reader feel overwhelmed.

Seriously needs a proofreader
Format: Paperback
The content in this series is good, but the presentation is in need of a proofreader. There are so many typos and wrong words (ignoring that it's UK English). It's like the author typed what he heard in his head, but the words are something different. For example, a section introduces the "Package Manager," which is then inconsistently called the "Packet Manager." Or "research term" instead of "search term." Or "PlayGround" in the text when it's clearly "playground" in the figure. Even the provided resources are misspelled: "Sdandard Assets" in the code and the screenshots in the book. How does this go unnoticed? Programming isn't tolerant of these things.

Great Beginner's book.
Format: Kindle
I really like Pat's approach to learn Unity. I'm working my way through his books, just finish this one (second in the series). I've tried to learn Unity in the past and fail and now I know why. Pat's walks you from the beginning, you learn how to build games from a blank canvas and putting all pieces together. It's a step by step approach so you are never wondering how to get to a certain stage. If you are new to Unity and Programming strongly suggest you starting with book 1 "foundation" and then move to this one.

A Great Start for Beginners That Encourages by Eliminating Ambiguity
Format: Kindle
Everyone has their own learning curve to overcome at their own time, however, the concise instructions in this book leaves very little for the individual to be stumped on and while moving on to more complex lessons the book is formatted in such a way that referencing older topics can be done quickly. As a beginner myself, having only completed a few tutorials before this series, would definitely recommend both the Foundations and Beginner works to those looking to take on the challenge of teaching themselves the intricacies of Unity.
