Maximilian Sunflower Seeds from Survival Garden Seeds produce a striking native perennial known for its towering height, late-season blooms, and exceptional ecological value. When most garden flowers have faded, this sunflower bursts into abundant golden-yellow blooms from late summer through fall, providing a vital nectar source for migrating monarchs and native pollinators.

Reaching heights of up to 10 feet, Maximilian Sunflower forms impressive vertical columns that add structure, movement, and natural screening to landscapes. The lightly fragrant blooms are known for a subtle chocolate-like scent that further attracts beneficial insects during the critical late growing season.

This hardy North American wildflower thrives in zones 4–9 and adapts easily to sandy, loam, or clay soils. Once established, it requires minimal watering and care, making it an excellent choice for drought-prone areas, prairie restorations, and low-maintenance pollinator gardens. Deep taproots help improve soil structure by breaking up compacted ground, while the plant’s edible tubers offer additional value for permaculture systems and livestock forage.

Late-Season Color with Lasting Impact:

  • Bright yellow blooms from late summer through fall
  • Tall plants reaching up to 10 feet high
  • Subtle chocolate-scented flowers attract pollinators
  • Provides nectar when few other plants are in bloom

Why Customers Love Maximilian Sunflower:

  • Native perennial sunflower adapted to North American climates
  • Essential late-season food source for monarchs and pollinators
  • Exceptional drought tolerance once established
  • Thrives in sandy, loam, or clay soils
  • Deep taproots improve soil health and reduce compaction
  • Edible tubers suitable for permaculture and livestock use
  • Naturally reseeds and forms expanding colonies over time

How to Use / How to Grow:
Maximilian Sunflower seeds benefit from cold stratification for reliable germination. Sow seeds on the soil surface and lightly press them into the soil, as light aids germination. Plant in full sun for best growth and flowering. Keep soil evenly moist during establishment, then reduce watering as plants mature. Over time, this perennial sunflower will spread naturally, forming long-lived stands that return year after year with minimal maintenance.

Brings history to life
Format: Paperback
Got this book as a read aloud before traveling to London. We did a tour of the Tower of London and used the map in this book, marking off the different parts we walked theough- talking about which parts were the setting of different scenes in the book. Reading this gave my kids a real love and personal connection to the Tower. Cliffhanger endings to different chapters. My 9 and 6 year old lived it. My 4 year old couldn't keep up.

Accessible, fun, and exciting.
Format: Kindle
While this book is aimed at younger readers (it includes, for examples, expletives like "Zooks!" and "Zounds!"), I Escaped The Tower of London is a neat historical fiction novella with taught pacing that readers of all ages can enjoy. Using the real-life account of John Gerard as inspiration, the authors have created a young boy who escapes from the Tower of London while attempting to aid Princess Elizabeth during Queen Mary's reign. It's exciting, it fast-paced, and it even has a pleasant message about doing the right thing — even when the right thing is hard to do. It's packed with a hodgepodge of images (most of them public domain, but also a few original pieces) that add to the experience. And the end includes a brief lesson on the historical figures involved. Despite the source material, you shouldn't worry if you (or your young ones) are squeamish; the main character sidesteps the torture and there's very little violence. All in all, quite a good read. Very accessible, surprisingly fun and exciting.

wow!
Format: Kindle
What an amazing story that tells about history from the perspective of a kid named Ben that was pretty much forced (but was thankful for the work) to work with coal in the Tower of London, to find out Princess Elizabeth was arrested and sent to the same tower. The plot thickens as he helps her escape. He was met with many challenges, but his best friend Tim helped him always, what a faithful friend! I absolutely love and adore this story because it’s based on history and real life facts, these things actually happened! But when you read it, the author has written it so well it almost sounds like a fantasy! I can’t wait to read more, it’s such a great book, I give it 5 stars but really it deserves 10! Highly recommend!
