Philodendron Birkin is one of the most visually arresting plants to emerge in the houseplant world in recent years. Its deep green, glossy leaves are striped with fine white pinlines that radiate outward from the midrib — a pattern so precise and graphic it looks almost hand-drawn. Each new leaf that unfurls brings a slightly different pattern, making it an endlessly interesting plant to watch develop. It is a self-heading Philodendron, meaning it grows upright rather than trailing.

Good for beginners? Yes. Birkin is easygoing, compact, and communicates clearly when it needs water. It grows slowly enough to be manageable but steadily enough to be rewarding — a great choice for a desk or tabletop.

Safe for cats and dogs? Philodendrons are toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs, or explore our pet-safe plant collection.

Light needs: Bright indirect light keeps the white pinstripes most vivid and the growth most consistent. It tolerates medium light but the striping may become less defined. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the glossy leaves.

Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Feed monthly in spring and summer. As a self-heading Philodendron it does not need a trellis or support. Wipe leaves occasionally to keep the graphic pinstripe pattern gleaming.

This is Other Work, and Different
Format: Hardcover
It was recommended by a usually reliable source, but even with the amazing art this is some weird stuff, strange stories that are spooky and deathly depressive. Just paging through it, the style remains the same. Mike Mignola has done other work that I liked more immediately. There's humor in this book which might suit me better, so this isn't a bad review, just a little-bit at a time review.

Shades of fantasist history
Format: Kindle
This is a great collection of stories to introduce a new world and some of its characters. For Hellboy fans you will feel some echoes of those stories, but this different and more like a walk through the world of dark fairy tales threading to become connected in some future tale. The art is beautifully crafted, and i hope we will get to see more of this word and its stories. Thank you Mr. Mignola

Coming soon to a Banned Book list near you.
Format: Hardcover
A retelling of Animal Farm but for modern audiences. Instead of focusing on the dangers of communism, it instead focuses on the dangers of fascism. I would say it's very heavy-handed in its obvious critique of the MAGA crowd, but also frightfully accurate and does very well at evoking emotion from you, the reader, who probably also just like me, would be very frustrated watching everyone fall for the DJT-allegory bulldog and it's BS. It's less "1984" and more "It Can't Happen Here" in it's warning about indifference and inaction in the face of growing danger from the autocracy crowd. It saddens me that this is a lesson that we have to keep learning, but I would say this book is probably one of the best ways of teaching that lesson at this point.
